Time for a no reply game thread! Giant update today at the elder scrolls website including the new downloadable trailer, screenshots, concept art, wallpapers, news, pre-order info, and more. I don't know about you guys, but I hope I get hit by a car and awake from my coma on 11-10-11.

Fast travel eliminated the feeling of actually being your character by traveling from city to city by giant flea thing, horse, or walking. Oblivion had fast travel, Morrowind didn't.
Anyway, I hear they're going to be using a new engine? I loved the engine the way it was, but if they can improve upon that, I'm all for it.

Oblivion was much more accessible than Morrowind, as much as I loved the atmosphere of the latter. Also, Morrowind could be easily broken if you know what you're doing with alchemy and if you know where to find the daedric dai-katana at level 1.
Still, Skyrim seems to being doing a lot more than oblivion in terms of...well everything. Combat is deeper, environments more varied, and the characters a supposedly going to be moving further from the uncanny valley.
Also is it just me, or are they getting some ideas from mods? Dual wielding has attempted before in oblivion, but never fully realized. And the neck slice in the full trailer seems to be taken from a popular Oblivion mod called Deadly Refles, which also features things like mounted combat and decapitations.
Not that there's anything wrong with using ideas from mod communities. It was done in New Vegas; the weapon mods were originally from a mod of Fallout 3. If anything, it should give us reason to hope that we can start lopping the heads off of some unsuspecting Nords in Skyrim.
Let's not talk about Oblivion vs Morrowind, alright? The argument about which is better could fill up a thread of its own.
Something that I dig about Skyrim is how they changed the leveling to be more similar to Fallout's. Although that' not perfect, it's a huge step up from Oblivions.

The thing I didn't like about oblivion was the amount of care you had to take when leveling. Unless you're getting +5/+5/+5 or +5/+5/+1 (luck) then your leaving points on the table. In fact it was better to base your major skills off of a well balanced mix of things you never use rather than your playstyle. This is frustrating me during my current playthrough because I don't have the patience for it. I'm glad they are changing it.
Also I picked up a book in oblivion the other day called "children of the sky". It's about skyrim and might gives clues just like the pocket guide to tamriel...

I found the part I bolded particularly interesting, maybe there will be a a teleport shout similar to the cut teleport plasmid from bioshock. I'll keep my eye out for more skyrim books in oblivion.
Wasn't that book stupidly expensive? If it dropped hints of the squeal 5 years before it comes out, then I guess that would explain it.
Also the considering the nature of Skyrim, you may wanna search for dragons and the dragonborn and the like in your book search. I'd look myself, but my oblivion disk just isn't agreeing with me.
I'm waiting to see if the game will use Steamworks on retail before I pre-order, because I like Steam's benefits, however I also want the game map included with retail boxed pre-orders....
Anyways.
I too hope Skyrim is more like Morrowind, only atmosphere wise though, the combat was shit in Morrowind. In Oblivion, you barely got rewarded for exploring, in Morrowind, there was so much to see and do. I'm also hoping that leveling will be more akin to Falllout 3, so I don't get fucked over when I'm level 30, and I'm still as powerless as when I was level 2, thanks to scaled enemies. Those are my two cents.

just a heads up I will actually be using the spoiler tags for real spoilers. I think it'd be nice if everyone else did the same, especially since I haven't had time to play too much of this fine game!
True, but I personally enjoyed spellmaking from the previous titles.
and I've noticed that there are very, very, few destruction spells. just a single spell for fire, ice, and lighting per each mastery level.
I hope midas magic makes a comeback for skyrim and produces tornados, otherworldly death streams, meteor attacks, and magic missles, to name a few spells.
There never were many destruction spells to begin with. All the ones in oblivion have reappeared as far as I know and there's even more in Skyrim like Blizzard. I don't recall seeing blizzard in oblivion.

It's back in this game, just at much higher levels. It's an adept alteration spell (I think) and you can take items and throw them at people for fun with an actual point.
i played this so much that my ps3 broke.
