many of you have heard the high-pitched/infested-with-angry-insects noise i get on my mic. i did a bit of messing around with the sound recorder and various settings (there really are not many) in winblows to see if i could get rid of it. no dice. i need to look at something that wont induce headaches for everyone.

this is what im using now. ClearChat my a-s.

whats everyone using for headset mics?

My mic is a clipon. It used to work really well when I could clip it to my beard but now everyone says it is too quiet. Been meaning to get a new one.

Woah z0th, I'm using the same exact headset as you. It was 20 bucks and also came with a webcam but I gave the cam away to someone. Its a awesome comfy headset and you can change it's colors.

well, its very possible that its the sound card drivers. ive poked around for updated drivers (SoundMax ADI1988), found a minor update. not sure how much its helped. the only way ill be able to tell if its the mic is to try a different one really.

clip on is a good idea. probably not super expensive either. ive got several sets of headphones (music junkie) to combine with that.

I'm in need of a pair of headphones and mic too. I'll be getting one with my walmart gift card hopefully. I'll have to see what kind works well.

Most of them will work good enough for a game chat. It's not like you are recording music or something like that.

Could it be a messed up gfx card? When mine was messed up everytime I plugged in my speakers or headset (after changing between the two) it would freeze my computer if it wasn't off or on standby.

that sounds like a interrupt or possibly a power problem. im not going to say its not something like that, its certainly possible.
im using the onboard sound and not an add on PCI card, so consumption and interrupts are factored into the board. i make a point of over buying my PSU, and stick to brand names (antec right now) to avoid these types of problems. i try to keep my drivers as current as possible w/o going to beta.

im down to drivers and mic hardware at this point. all i can do with the drivers is upgrade them to the most current. could be a windows issue as well, but theres pretty much nothing i can do about that. with the mic i gan go out and try another one.
