If you wrote the plot of Team Fortress 3...
If you could plan TF3, what would you do with it?
I had a dream the other night. It was about Team Fortress 3. Or what my sub-conscious wanted it to be. I liked it what I thought up, so I built off of it.
The plot of the game took place in the early 1980's. The time of big hair, acid-washed jeans, popped collars, and, most importantly, Stephen Spielberg. Obviously.
By this point in time, only a little more than 10 years had passed since the events of TF2;
the power of Red and Blu had controlled every action of every nation in the world, and they controlled practically all manufacturing of every consumer good in the world.
They owned the world. Secretly, of course. Equally. Neither side ever over-shadowed the other for long. And they hated it.
In short, same shit, different day.
Your job as the 9 hired guns from RED and BLU is to seize major superpowers in an attempt to gain total control of the world and snuff the other side out for good. Therefore, the maps in TF3 take place within economic keystones all over the world as apposed to ragged mines and shantytowns in the middle of nowhere like TF2, allowing for a much wider variety of map style. Urban skyscrapers, shopping malls, airports, aircraft carriers, all modern developments that are fronts for top-secret surveillance and doomsday research centers operated by each side. Capturing them would gain control over the local population and would cripple the other side when taken for your own.
Team Fortress 3 retains the film noir espionage art style that made TF2 so unique, but with a post-Vietnam 'A-Team'-style twist. Taking place in the early '80's gives it 'Miami Vice'-style character. Together, Team Fortress 3 has a completely refreshing atmosphere while still feeling very welcome and familiar to fans of the previous installments.
Well, that's what I would want, at least.

I'd be completely for this.
Mostly because I like the idea of koth_berlinwall, but it's still without that

Two teams: One RED one BLU. There are nine unique classes. Each team shares the same class types, the only difference is their primary uniform colors. They compete in a multitude of gametypes. The graphics become even more cartoonish and non-realistic than the previous installment. Also, the player's favorite non-CP gametype will be removed, such as Payload, just like Escort (or whatever it was called) was removed from TF1 to TF2. The time setting drops back another decade or so.

Highly disagree with both the sillier visuals and the negative time change. Early 1960's, culture wise, would not have made any significant impact. Not nearly as much of a culture shock as setting it 10 years into the future.Bishop wrote:Two teams: One RED one BLU. There are nine unique classes. Its obvious Valve didn't intend for TF2 to be as silly as it is now. It had a sense of dark humor. I think they need to aim the game towards mainly an adult audience for once in their lives. (excluding Half-Life). I was thinking something more towards 'Pulp Fiction' blended with 'American Psycho' style of humor. Very sinister and indirect.

The 80s is known for it's over the top, sparkly, hair metally, Bill and Ted Excellenty style, so it would honestly make more sense for it to be a bit silly. This was the era of the Star Wars Missile Defense, the days when metal bands pushed each other down elevator shafts, the epoch of fucking Rocky IV. The 80s and pretty much anything that tributes it wallows in it's own stupidity and that's what makes it so damn amusing.Taedium wrote:Highly disagree with both the sillier visuals and the negative time change. We'll save the sinister humor for TF4, which will be a parody of 90s Todd Mcfarlane-style dark as shit comics with a OST featuring Soundgarden.

I personally like the 11th class. The dog of course, ya know, missiles on its sides, helicopter wings on its back to fly. The perfect class.
