Original's Contributions

Unread post by Original »

Hey all, long time.

Playing on cC last night, messing with hats... Haven't played since the polycount pack at least.

Got me inspired to try and sell Valve some models.

Submitted this today:
(hopefully it shows in game with alpha, you can see the alpha shows in the spec map)
Groucho.jpg
Groucho.jpg (13.06 KiB) Viewed 17034 times

and plan to submit this later, you might've seen it back when I was working on ctf_Orient, it was packed in there as a birthday hat replacement.

------------
Anyway, I'm up for doing more, if anyone has an idea of a hat they want in game post it here.

If I make it and Valve buys it I will buy one of them for you. (not sure of any other good ideas on 'profit sharing' - but since I'll be doing all the work anyway...well, I think that's fair. Maybe I'll name it for you too)
Of course other ideas are welcome on a fair trade for an idea.

I'd be into weapons too...
This would be worth money if you had it in writing

I approve of Nacho hat. And the disguise glasses have been suggested many times. Hopefully yours would make it in.

If capn agrees, I can get these up as custom hats for donators/admins/all on the funServer.

Also trilby needs modelers for his weapon packs.
Toasty is helping him out so far.

I'm gonna try and make a few bucks first if I can Flamin, been modding for free for so long it would be nice to make some change finally.

But if Valve rejects them I'll be happy to contribute them if Capn' has a script to run them. We had discussed something like that along time ago when I first did the nacho hat.

Got this in today, took awhile to get it aligned properly, forgot all my old tricks for getting in/out of game fast and reloading models. The hats also attach to bones now, when I did the sombrero it just attached to the head same as birthday hats, no special bone.
RetroRocketeer.jpg
Still needs an actual texture, I'll do that tommorrow.

I'm going to to a ray gun to replace the shotty, need to think of a melee, might as well try a package.

I made the updated version of the TF2 Equipment Manager (the custom hats one).

It works on the funServer, in my testing for attachables, so... yay.

No problem, I was just thinking Original's hats, or non-DL-required models.

The pineapple hat was broslaughter's thing, and it broke miserably.

It's up to you guys/ Captain, whoever.

Currently my 'stupidest' hat is the nacho hat. We'll see if Valve excepts it. I do have my pumpkin head ready to go, not submitting it as Valve made one too (theirs is better anyway even though mine was first, lol), but it could be used anytime, no holiday restrictions.

I do have icons for the store/loadout made too, but not sure how to implement them/ if they'd need done for the server script.

New one today, was hoping to get another done too but this took too long.

The Brain Drain. Everything is better engineered, and this stimulates both left and right brain.

thanks. No, I've just been replacing a hat model I have for that class, going in game... the manage items menu works alright for general positioning, but have to go in game and taunt to get a better view before final.

I need to get the heads set up in 3d so position is right every time without all the back and forth in TF2, quite a pain to start it up every time I move the model a hair.

if you want tf2 to start up faster and skip the splashes use "-novid" in the advanced launch options. it makes more of a difference than you would expect.

If you want some help or great tips, I suggest you go to the TF2 Emporium on Facepunch. There are a lot of great people there, who can give useful tips, as a lot of them already have items in-game (the Nasty vs. Fancy pack, the Beak, the Headsplitter, the Beret, the Bonk Helm, the Kabuto,...)

Great work btw, but with the exception of the Brain Drain, I don't think these models would fit in TF2.

Thanks but... TF2 = almost anything goes these days imo.

I mean look at the choices:

brain slug
parasite
ear buds
max head
demo shades
pimp hat...

If that stuff wasn't in I wouldn't have submitted the nacho hat for sure. But I don't think it's any crazier or un-fitting than those choices imo. (well, pimp hat's not crazy, but it's 70's, not 50's)

If you could make a pyro hat that looks like the one from TFC I'd love that.
And what I mean by that is like this

If you can EDIT models, I was looking for somebody to edit the Tank and Ellis models from L4D to fit with the TF2 bones. It's just a matter of changing ValveBiped.biphead01 to bip_head, etc, if I remember correctly.

Brass Knuckle Sandvich - just over 700 tris, 512x2, needs rigged.

Image

Feed your enemies some PAIN.

I figure something like:

Bleed 10% every second for 5 seconds, feed heavy 5% for 5 seconds, no krits? (basically over 5 seconds a hit enemy would lose 50% of their health and the heavy would gain 25% health.

Got the knuckles in game. Haven't made the vmt for tex so obviously it's missing.

Now gotta figure out how to get proper alignment, no scrunched hands, and when taunting there are no hands at all. I'll probably just have to include the heavies fists in the model.

That's how they do it with the gloves I think - just changed the fists into gloves...hence all the bugs that showed him without hands for a while.

Yeah, this is turning into somewhat of a pain in the butt.

I found a v_fist model. So that's the visual fist, but it's got arms too. The c_heavyarms model imports all backwards and upside down...

Gloves would be easy, adding something to hands is not.

Maybe I'll just submit the models on this and hope Valve would set it up (not required to be working when sent in). They've got all the correct files ready to go, would only take minutes.

Long time since I did anything related...

Worked on this all day, and old idea that I started once and never continued on. Really been wanting to do it so today was the day.

Pretty well aligned, baked...but needs texture details. Less spec. And possibly paintable. Thinking classic copper and Liberty Dyed (the hair will be paintable) for styles.
Probably just call it Liberty Spikes.
Image
762 tris. (currently 512x512)

Planning on doing the liberty torch next. basically a rift axe skin, lights victim on hit.

I like it a lot, but I suggest a more neutral color that is also in the tf2 color palette. I know that your current color is the correct one, but I also know that when you read the tips of how to get items in-game by valve, it says to stick to that palette for the most part.

Regardless, I really like it.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'd like to see it in game this color (in game at all for that matter) but I'll probably submit 2 skins. Maybe one that's more of a brass color that matches existing brass helms more too.

Hell, it might even look better anyway. I think it's recognizable enough that color probably doesn't matter too much if I have to go with brass.

Guess I'll post the progress so far...

The Liberty Torch... Pyro melee to match the liberty spikes. Same size as axe.

Figure it would be good skin for the Rift Axe, lights on contact.
Not sure if it will have particle flame (possible?) or just a shiny gold flame (gold like the wrench)
