Re: Windows 7 vs XP
Anything that you buy nowadays will come preloaded with w7, so why downgrade to XP?
Re: Windows 7 vs XP
Windows 7 is basically sex in a box that you can play TF2 on

Re: Windows 7 vs XP
another cool feature i just got working is, if you have 2 computers running windows 7 on the same network you can remote access the others computer. this is helpful when your parents want you help with something and you dont want to move to help them. i find it highly useful since im really lazy and ill lose weight if i run down my stairs!

Re: Windows 7 vs XP
lol well.. being a CIS major.. (Software Dev. C++) i can get any microsoft product for free from their ELMS service..
I'm thinking about dual-booting 7 after spring break on my lappy.. i'm not going to format my hd because i have too much stuff to transfer to an external hd and thats way too much work..
and i only use my lappy for music production anyways.

Re: Windows 7 vs XP
im an open-unix (linux/bsd) system guy, and im actually fairly happy with win7. windows is a necessary evil for me.
i just made the jump to win7 64-bit from XPPro 32-bit this week. so far im pleased. zero headaches on install. good 32-bit emulation for legacy apps (running ultimate). out-of -box support for nvidia video (auto detected my mulit-monitor setup!) and sata devices. much better chipset support.
my only gripe right now has to do with Adobe Lightroom and system resources. Lr is a reasonably heavy duty photo editing app and it does tend to hitch windows up when dumping JPEG files to disk at the end of post processing. this is under Lr2.x, have not tested the same with Lr3Beta.
i still pine for native virtual desktop and configurable keybindings (a la Fluxbox) - doubt that will ever happen. something for us power users i think.

Re: Windows 7 vs XP
I'm not even sure if XP is superior to vista anymore, which is saying something. As everyone else has said, XP is great but getting really old really fast.

most corps have not moved from XP to Vista. i know of several internal and external tech support outfits that will not support Vista.

Did you know if you take Windows CE, Windows ME, and Windows NT, you get Windows CEMENT. Coincidence? I think not!
