Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
"One Day in The Life of Ivan Denisovich" is good. It's translated, so it is easy to understand, and it is very powerful and moving. Not to mention it is also a quick read.
"We" is another great anti-soviet book. It is believed to be the inspiration for "1984".
"The Arabian Nights' Entertainments" is another timeless classic.
LIST TIEM
"Les Miserables"
"Generation Kill"
"A Tale of Two Cities"
"Lamb" if you're into inoffensive religious comedy
anything by Harry Turtledove if you are into alternate reality history
Robert Heinlein wrote a few good sci-fi short stories.
I might post more later
EDIT:
How could I forget "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy"

"Animal Farm" (George Orwell reflects the Stalin era of USSR but with animals!
)
"Lord of the Flies"(Group of young lads that get stranded and try to survive)
"Catch-22" (dark/ironic comedy by Joesph Heller (YOU SHOULD READ THIS!))
"In The Time of the Butterflies" (About how four sisters helped an uprising in the Dominican Republic against an oppressive dictator)
"1984" (Another awesome book by George Orwell, The scary part of this book is that I can see the government setup in the novel happening in real life)
"The Bluest Eye" (This book at first didn't really hook me in, but once you get into the middle of it where the stuff hits the fan it becomes a really good book since all the pieces are finally coming together, though it's told from several points of view and I found that rather frustrating)

Fuck that noise. It doesn't make you immature to read comics, unless your reading bitch ass comics.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion man.

Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
Lord of the flies: worst book ever.
sorry but that book was unbearable, and the movie was worse.
Im reading crime and punishment right not and would NOT recommend it. For leisure im re-reading the lord of the rings trilogy. Dragonriders of pern is also a good series. Foundation and Empire is a good series. I basically read old shit. Only classic fantasy/sci-fi. But Animal farm was good. Haven't read "In The Time of the Butterflies" yet but will this year. I read a similar book by the same author, about the same conflict, and it was fairy good. Oh and "Hitchhikers guide to the Universe" and the rest of the series is a must.
Can you believe there is no basic smilie with a pipe? I mean what was the point then of adding them?

Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
It really is hard to recommend a topic to you when you don't know what type of book they'd be interested in reading.
"World War Z" was a good fictional narrative, and also had a cool theme (for some).
"America: The book" You know Colbert? Yeah, Steven Colbert. Do you know the guy discovered him? No...Okay, whats the name of the show before his. No, not South Park. NO, not Scrubs. Common, the Daily Show with.... JON STEWART YOU RETARD! He wrote this book.
"Why We Suck" Denis Larry is really funny. Those to are good political satires.
Not good with adventure/fantasy books, but I have read the Harry Potters and Lord of the Ring books.
The only biography I read by will was "American Scream: A Bill Hick story" I love Bill Hicks
Other than that, find a genre, and Google it. No really.

Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
"One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch" its about literally one day in the life of 'Ivan', who is a prisoner at a soviet work camp in siberia.
"A Clockwork Orange" There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, Dim being really Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar making up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening, a flip dark chill winter bastard though dry.
"The Book of Three" its the first book in the series "The Chronicles of Prydain" its based around the story of The Black Cauldron.. by far my favorite books of all time, the characters are very easy to relate to; to yourself and people you know.
"The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian" its by the same author as "The Chronicles of Prydain" but is unrelated... its about a fiddle player for the court of a king. he gets kicked out of the kingdom, and a load of other bad stuff happens to him afterwards ( i havent read it in a while, but its a good one, nonetheless).
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" [The Guide] says that the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. It says that the effect of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.

Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
One of my favorite books of all time right now. The trilogy is called "The Night Angel".
Basic story: A guild rat called Azoth apprentices under a Wetboy (assassin's with magic).
There's really too much to summarize well in this story. All of it is freakin' AWESOME! It's also the Brent Week's, the author, first released book, which is really frigin amazing. HIGHLY recommended. There's no cliches in this story at all that i could see, so if your tired of "hero saves world and gets girl" stories, this one is great.
I lent it to my friends and all of em loved it. I'm just repeating myself now, but, seriously, READ THIS SHIT!

Watership Down, good book and a creepy cartoon.
Any of the Incarnations of Mortality series. I think my favorite is On a Pale Horse. That one is about death.
I'll think of more.

On topic, there's this one book called "The curious Case of The Dog in the Night" that I read god knows how long ago, but it was really good. Considering it's told from the point of view of an autistic child, it's pretty well written.

Re: What books do you suggest to read to this community?
I remember hearing about this book, I'm pretty sure it was a best seller for a few centuries.

Fahrenheit 451. Overlooking my obvious bias, it points out the significance of books and how we take them for granted, and the rather special role they play that the march of technology can't really replicate.
