I have five more: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, and Walden by Henry David Thoreau.
At least I don't have flies in my eyes.

So thinking about locking this topic....

Anyways, why are you guys associating this with vampires? It's a romance novel. That is all. There is still other vampire media coming out. Plus this is just a fad. As for people hating something because it's popular. Learn to think for your self. You have one group who loves it and one group that hates it. You think it is cool to hate something that is popular. Why do you care!?!

Let's not forget how the book makes things like stalking, teenage marriage, and pregnancy look like a good idea.

Someone's getting defensive over other people's opinions. Touchy subject, a book. No, I didn't read some Irate Blogger's review. I have friends who've read the book and hated it, and I've asked them what they didn't enjoy about it.

According to said friend, there are two instances of rape in the book that go unpunished, and Edward trashes Bella's car, making it glamorized to have a jealous boyfriend.

P.S. The glitter jokes are still funny

THIS IS SASTORA!
I just don't feel like using my account.

Like you said how I am Legend was loosely based of off vampires so why can't Twilight be too? You say that they ripped off Animorphs, tons of moves change into different creatures so why can't Twilight? The book thing is just a fad, and yes there are millions of books now just like the Twilight ones but those will soon pass. The world has phases with literature like there are millions of books about Dragons or Magic. This is just sappy vampire period and it will soon pass. I know a few boys who have read it and they like it a lot. The writing isn't bad and how would you know if you haven't read it. And I'm not saying that I am Legend and Blade isn't as good as Twilight I'm saying that they are all different but based around vampires. Let the girls go fan crazy if they want, its there prerogative.

And about the rape thing? The only part that was raped was because it telling about the past of one of the vampires so don't even mention it if you have no clue what you are talking about. He trashes her car? I don't remember that at all.

The teen marriage, they got married so she can be a vampire and live forever. You have to remember that we are talking about the immortal so time is IRRELEVANT! And its not like they meant to get pregnant, who really thought a vampire could procreate. Really. You haven't read the books so you don't even know what it is about completely.

And who cares if it is for the female youth? You hate it because you aren't the female youth? 'Cause that would be the only reason for going against it. Its like young boys don't want to play dress up or with Barbies so its not like things haven't been made for the female youth.

Try and read the books so we can have a decent discussion because if you don't know the books there is no reason in arguing because you don't understand the points. You are just making assumptions and listening to hear say which doesn't work in court and isn't working for me.

Congratulations. You found someone who doesn't like the books. He isn't the audience. The entire reason these books were for these people.

They are made to get a rise out of ^^^ that audience. Everyone else doesn't matter. His argument is also valid because he has read the books and seen the movies. But that isn't your argument it's his.

Expecting a guy to read the books to have a valid argument is like expecting a guy to play with barbie dolls just to judge their girliness. But nobody cares about that when it's "Twilight".

Opinion is a delicate matter. Either you like them or you don't. Constant yelling from either side will neither convince nor turn over the opposite side. It's alright to state your opinion, but is it really worth it to debate about it when you know that it will do nothing to somebody who has already decided if they like it or not? It's a work of fiction, what are you trying to prove? State your points, get over it.

Twilight is aimed at females, it's a fact. It's also got some sexual material, alright; what doesn't? If love stories about vampires are your thing, go for it. If they're not, get over it and join the rest of the world in their ignorance. Like it or not, the whole Twilight craze will die down just as it has for the past few months, and it's not really as big as it seems.

The great thing about being human is that you get to CHOSE whose opinion you take in what manner. Example: I'm gonna care more about my opinion over the fun server than Wintergreen's.

To be honest though, and no offense to anyone here, but I couldn't care less about a majority of people's opinions. You have the right to your own like I have the right to mine. Opinions can go either way, depending on the people who have them.

I dont mean to angry the females but these books and the movies were a disgrace to literature. I had the "pleasure" of being forced to read them and they make me sick to my stomach

They are just horribly written fan fiction. Stephenie Myer is not an author just a crazy horny old
bat
the plot goes hey-wire every chapter, there is no reasonable cuase behind any of the characters actions and there is no character growth
for god sake the women doesn't even follow her own plot lines " now u see the true face of a murder" *sparkle* and then i die a little

the reason alot of ppl enjoy these books is because there friends do and if they didnt like them they would be a social outcast, which is the biggest fear the ppl this book is aimed at have

she ruined vampires by destroying any lure behind them

i await "dusk" the story of a girl falling in love for no reason with a zombie
who doesnt have to eat ppl

Well actually...That could make for an interesting story. C: Like a husband and wife during the zombie apocalypse and near the end of it the husband gets bitten like in Resident Evil and so the wife chains him up and feeds him. C: That would be funny.

There is also True Blood which is like a mix of Buffy the Vampire slayer and Twilight (I can't watch the show 'cause there is to much sex involved). The author made the books for the teenage girl stage kinda like sponge bob is for little kids and stuff. It doesn't have to be good for people to like it. Have you seen the vampire movie Dusk till Dawn? That movie was so bad it was good. C:

Sure its 'unfair' to make something so cool and luring and evil like a vampire and turn it into something girls actually want but its unfair that they don't really make any dinosaur stuff for girls (Them jerks!) 'cause man, I really want some pink dinosaur bed sheets but all I can find are green, red, or blue ones. Lame. C:

I in fact loved the way it was written because to me it didn't matter how it was written, like the link said at the end where it was written for the girls to feel all hot an cold. That was nice and I sped through those books like crazy because it was easy to relate to and I loved the soft romantic parts about it. To me it doesn't have to be an awesome writer 'cause I couldn't stand trying to read books like whats it called..um, oh yeah! Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, I couldn't read that book even though everyone said it was good. I didn't get into it, it didn't appeal to me. C: And everyone has their opinion. But don't knock it till you've tried it.

Brael read it. He assures us it is godawful.

My aunt read it. She assured me it's godawful.

I read several pages at the behest of a girl in my creative writing class in grade 12. It was godawful.

Who is this book popular with? Almost strictly teenage girls. When something's only popular with its target audience, that means it's good at impressing it's target audience, it does not mean it is good.

When something receives universal acclaim, i.e. Harry Potter (not a fan, but EVERYONE read it. also, lololol it's apparently twilight's "rival"), it is good.

Ergo, Twilight is the greatest thing ever to teenage girls, and the outright hostility of all other demographics is indicative that the book is not good at anything other than appealing to teenage girls.

geeos, you can be a man, OR be a twilight fan. You can't be both.

Edit: Oh! Almost forgot! True blood is a vampire fetish porno. Seriously. It has more vampire fucking than twilight.

Okay this is my last post in here because I forgot I was trying to stay out of discussions like this...

Saying something is only good to it's targeted audience does not mean it's bad. It just means that it was made for it's fans. It seems like most people I know seem to hate The Fifth Element. That doesn't make it bad. I happen to like that movie, As does it's audience. Now if you think about it. Even if 25% of the women in this country have read it the book is still a huge success. Now the only reason you could hate a book like that is because you are jealous. Not jealous as in you wrote your own novel and it didn't do as well, but you don't think it should have done as well as it did. Well guess what, the book did do that well. It served it's purpose, It made money and grabbed it's audience.

Oh and just for the record. I am not a fan of twilight. I didn't read the books and I didn't like what I saw of the first movie. I just believe that other people have every right to like a series. It's not on other people to decide what others should or shouldn't read.

goose, if you were talking about something important like sexuality or religion or something, you'd be right. as it is, we're talking about a book. If I think you have bad taste in literature, and I can rationalize it, I'll say it.

also, I think we all know being successful isn't synonymous with being good.

Id also like to put forth one of the biggest flaws in the book
In the books (not sure when) she says vampires dont have blood
How is it possible for Edward to partake in the main plot of the book, banging belle if he lacks the ability to "stand erect"

Here's my argument.
1 If I wanted badly written vampire love stories I could just watch anime.

2 It completely destroys the vampire lore I have come to know and love without adding anything to it.

3Final argument I actually have proof this time

No actual spoilers
Given: Vampires are undead
Prove: Having intercourse with vampires is necrophilia
1Vampires are undead 1 Given
2Having intercourse with the (un)dead is necrophilia 2 Definition of Necrophilia
3 Having intercourse with vampires is necrophilia 3 Transitive Property
