Military Trivia Challenge!
Ok, just for fun, I’ve decided to a award a free virtual beer to the person who provides the first or most correct answers the following questions before 2100 Hrs 25 September 2009.
Are you up to the task?
-----------
1. During World War II, the Germans built two guns which fired the most massive projectiles ever used through a gun against an enemy in war. What were the names of these guns?
2. Only one United States warship was modified to be equipped with a bathtub. What was the name of this ship?
3. History records the battle at Hampton Roads as the battle between the first Iron Clads – Monitor vs Merrimack. However, the “Merrimack” was the name of a Union vessel captured by the Confederates . What did the Confederates rename the Merrimack to, the name she fought under at the first battle of the Iron Clads?
4. What were the last words of Major General John Sedgwick as he was attempting to rally his troops at the battle of Spotsylvania?
5. This rifle was the first semi automatic weapon to be issued on mass to any nation’s military force. What is the name of this rifle?
6. Complete the battle cry: “Remember the Maine, to Hell with __________.”
7. The ________ ___ __ ___________ is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States Government. It is bestowed on a member of the United States Armed Forces who distinguishes him- or herself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his [or her] life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States
8. On 07 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor Hawaii, who sunk the first enemy vessel, the Americans or Japanese?
9. It was during this war that Poisonous Gas was first used on mass. Which war was this?
10. In what war was the White House burned down?

Re: Military Trivia Challenge!
Alright I can only get a few of these.
3) I do believe her name was the CSS Virginia
4) edit: whoops, I know this one too. "They couldn't hit an elephant from this distance" or some even go as far to say that he couldn't finish the last word
5) M1Garand...I shoulda known
6) Spain is my first logical choice and it rhymes
7) Congressional Medal of Honor makes sense so im going with that.
9) WWI sounds so wrong because I know that gas was used back in sun tzu's era but that's all I got
10) Too easy, the war of 1812
That's all I got but i am a historical lightweight.

1. Gustav and Dora, aren't they just the cutest couple, so adorable.
2. USS Iowa
3. The CSS Virginia, was that bright?
4. "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance!" Just before being shot dead.
5. Every one of us has fired one, at least in WW II games, the M1 Garand.
6. Spain
7. Congressional Medal of Honor.
8. I like that you said "vessel", and not "ship" as I believe it was the US that sank a Japanese submarine first.
9. This one I am reluctantly answering World War One, as it is a bit ambiguous as to what you mean by "poisonous gas," and that it has been used for a long time. I will just say that if i wanted to, I could make some myself with ease.

No, I’m not going to reveal the correct answers by number until someone has a perfect score! But… I will say that I’m surprised be the quick accuracy of the answers! The next round of questions shall be tougher!

You know what Big John, I did the best that I could, fucking 9/10 and I didn't even have to look anything up (however I did look up the gas one afterwards because that was bothering me). Also, I just went on a super long date (things went well) and been out all day so I'm drinking a damn Michelob ULTRA Amber.

9 out of 10 is impressive Plastic, but I do have to award the free virtual beer to the first person to gain 10 out of 1. If no one can bet your score by Friday, then you win.
You are allowed to revise your answers as often as you please, but I will only accept your latest submission.
First to reach all ten wins!

Re: Military Trivia Challenge!
Well im confused then, i only answered 7 to begin with, and your standings said that all 7 of those were correct. Then i actually looked the other 3 up, and found Plastic was right so i replaced the other 3. So the wrong answer has to be one of those 3, however all three answers are correct, so i dont see how anything could be wrong.BigJohn 308 wrote:Joe’s revised standings: 9/10

Just to clarify the gas question…. Yes, WW I was not the first time Gas was used in war, but it was the first time that is was used on mass - that is, both belligerents stockpiling and using it indiscriminately.

Re: Military Trivia Challenge!
Ok – Round one was considerable shorter than I ever imagined. Now – Part Two. Who am I?
__----__----__----__-----__----__----
1.) As a young officer in the army, I participated with Pershing’s Punitive expedition into Mexico. In one battle I used my old Colt Single Action Revolver to kill one of Poncho Villa’s lieutenants. Later, as a general, I carried that same revolver at my side through all of World War II.
Who am I?
2.) I was a Marine Sniper in Vietnam credited with 93 confirmed kills and “a gobble probable”.
Who am I?
3.) After being mortally wounded in a major sea battle of which my leadership was key to victory, my fellow sailors preserved my body in a cask of brandy so they could return my body to my homeland before being laid to rest.
Who am I?
4.) In a single battle in WW I, I was awarded the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, taking 32 machine guns , killing 28 German soldiers and capturing 132 others.
Who am I?
5.) During the war, my property was seized by the enemy as retribution for my joining the Confederacy. To make sure I could never reclaim my land, they buried their dead at my homestead, making it into a national cemetery.
Who am I?

Re: Military Trivia Challenge!
Number six is George S. Patton, and I suspect number eight is the Red Baron. that's all I know off the top of my head.
Edit: I feel dumb. Number three is Admiral Lord Viscount Horatio Nelson.
