Justify why you like anime to me
Alright as far as I can see anime's appeal is derived from three sources. 1. "HAWT BEWBS AWEOMSE " 2. Wish fulfillment fantasy 3. A sense of "exoticness" in watching something from another country (i.e. Japanophiles) Sooo, tell me why you like anime, and I might reconsider my "lol so retarded" stance on it.

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
Personally, I enjoy anime because it is typically a link to it's manga counterpart. This thread isn't about manga so I won't go into that, but unlike the ratio between movies and books, anime most accurately portrays what would happen in manga beyond your imagination in animation styles, voice acting, and storyboards. Some anime are just boring, but the character design and methods behind them make it worth it to see just about whatever you want with both quality and enjoyment. Giant robots fighting? Best place to find it is with anime. How about island paradise with giant robots fighting? Yep. Sorry about all the robots, but if you can think of it, most likely some Japanese animator did too.
Usually I find anime to be a great place to catch a good story, and in obscure environments that I have never seen in another show or movie before. The diversity makes it great, and since it originates from Japan, it gives a culturally different outlook on everything, as well as different world views on the story aside from America or Canada or wherever.
I'm not too experienced in anime, but there's my view. Somebody else's will probably be much better for swaying you over to some quality stuff.

I like cartoon porn, as real people have too many imperfections.

Hard to say exactly what I like. It is just so addicting and funny at times. Also, it is far better than most American cartoons.

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
It's like any other genre, there is good stuff like Naussica of the Valley of the Wind and Akira and then there is a butt-ton of crap. So like any other genre you are going to have to find out what is good and what is crap. If you want to find some good stuff just spend about half an hour on the internet. Also, anyone whose face turns red and argues that it should be called anime instead of cartoons is an idiot.
Hentai is for sick ass losers.

Well, I don't care if it rains or freezes,

We will travel every nation,
With my plastic Jesus I'll go far.

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
Meh, if you like anime your considered COOL nowadays right?! Me? I... have watched a few animes cause I was bored but most of them are boring as hell and/or are too typical. Seems like a lot of anime is the same. Innocent girls with squeaky annoying high pitched voices o.o

I am no addict, but whenever I do happen to watch it I enjoy the art style (all the funny expressions) and the deep on-going storyline.

anyway, yeah, as said before there's crap and there's quality, i.e. fullmetal alchemist, arguably the least japanese anime ever conceived.
Re: Justify why you like anime to me
This is a bad post. (reference Toastyking's avatar)
I don't know if this is a rant post or you're trying to prove something.
But whatever, I'll discuss a little on the anime.
Firstly, I'd like to point out that it was the Japanese form of cartoons. The exaggerated gestures, poor stories, simplistic design, and the infamous busty women were all deemed necessary to the Japanese to get points across.
It slowly turned into it's own genre and was considered it's own. I think people like Plastic, calling it a bunch of hot women, really sexual undertoned children, and flat out "for freaks", are just the kind of people who would deem it such without giving it a second chance.
Sure, it's stereotyped to be liked by a bunch of losers and fantasy freaks, but then, it's just like any other classification of watched TV... or read books. (w/e). Fat people like the cooking channel, jocks and people who overcompensate watch sports, and children watch Blue's Clues.
So, again, I don't know why you're making a big deal about it.
Once again, Trigun and Tales of Symphonia. Google 'em.
That is all.
OH. And Full Metal Alchemist was pretty good. Until I stopped watching all TV. Anything I watch on TV, anime included, has to beat what I've already seen or it's not worthy of my attention. :/

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
I like to watch true TV (crime shows on it) but sadly, I also have a guilty pleasure. That pleasure is watching reality TV sometimes. My sister got me watching it and we laugh at how stupid it is, but now it has become sort of entertaining..

cowboy bebop and samurai champloo...are amazing...afro samurai was good too
imagine yourself as a T-rex in a room full of T-ball poles and large soapy bubbles. Your stubby arms would render the pleasure-power of this room woefully out of reach.

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
Most of the boobs in anime is fan service. People think the ladies are hot and all of a sudden they decide to take a day off from fighting robots to spend some time jumping around a beach.
There are a lot of good anime shows/movies out there. The fighting in anime is usually a lot more satisfying than other cartoons and the stories are usually really interesting.
Most of the stuff I watch is short (less tahn 50 episodes). In these types of anime, there is usually a clear story that is being told from beginning to end. This is different from most US cartoons that are made for children and don't really have much of a storyline beyond the simplistic plot of the current episode.
Short answer: Boobs, guns and fighting.

Re: Justify why you like anime to me
ive been a quasi-fan of anime/manga well before its very recent explosion (saturation?) in north america. ill be honest about my opinions -- about 95% of the stuff thats out there now is utter garbage -- so much so, that ive really stopped paying much attention to it. stuff like pokemon and dragonball generally just gives me a headache (sorry fanboys).
like the books i read, and the television i watch; it needs to have some sort of actual plotline, and quality animation production. i now only watch anime based on the recommendation of friends (ive got a friend that is a serious fan, he has to database his collection, and its part of his monthly budget).
edit: speeling.

Naussica was a great series! i remember borrowing the print version from a friend of mine, and being blown away by it. im pretty sure that the anime did leave out some of the storyline, but it was still pretty good.PJ wrote: ... Naussica of the Valley of the Wind and Akira...

It's kinda like Pokemon. You either hate the crap out of it, don't like it, or find it funny and interesting.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goodbye Mr. Despair)
Anyway, I love anime! Absolutely love it!
A great movie is Berzerk, too bad there isn't a sequel
But I think for me it is more the story. I am a writer so stories intrigue me very much. I also love the action and suspense that some anime has. THere are so many out there, just check some out and find which ones you like. Even I don't like all of them lol
