for me it was the first mortal kombat for the sega genesis. i was only 4 at the time.LOL. i dont think that game was appropriate for a 4 year old. but it was fun. i laughed when i saw the fatality when the guy rips your head off. i was a sick child.

Super Mario Bros. 3. After that I went back to older Nintendo games and the Atari.

That's about half of it...The other half is that I concluded that "Dantego" was some new young & hip linguistic adaptation currently in use by the incorrigible sect of whippersnappers , so for the first time in a long time, I was unable to counter with a sardonic rebuttal.
Now, You d@mn kids…GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Re: The first video game you ever played?
Ok, this is the old "grandpa" Dantego - yes, the Pong console game was my first - yes, they had systems that had only one game back then and yes it was black and white. My next was breakout, followed by the Apple II computer (with a tape player to store your programs on and having to type in your own programs before you could play them), then the Commodore 128 and 64 (I used the 64 for a BBS at a whopping 9600 baud and a 10 Meg hard drive that was as big as a PC nowdays). Oh, I also had to write programs on punch cards to run them on a computer. I think I've dated myself enough now. So to quote BigJohn - "Get off my lawn you young whippersnappers"
Re: The first video game you ever played?

Re: The first video game you ever played?
It’s great to see someone here who remembers the same Presidents Dantego! (More than two…) And yes, I do remember punchcards!
The funny thing about Pong was that it was so new and revolutionary for its time, that as simple as it was, it was truly revolutionary for its time. I’m comforted by the fact that the whippersnappers here someday will be trying, to little avail, to explain how they were possibly able to derive enjoyment form something so pathetic as TF2 to their children.
Some other games/things you may remember:
• The Odyssey 2 had a keyboard and for $40 (in an era when you could buy a new car for $3,000) you could buy a game cartridge that would let you type in about 10 words, then the computer would speak them.
• After taking a few minutes to type out the program, you could get a Commodore 64 to do amazing things… Like count from 1 to 1000 – really fast. Of course, since it had only a Read Only Memory, once you turned it off, you had to retype the program to do the amazing counting trick again.
• The Skill Selector Switch on the Atari – All it did was make your piece bigger or smaller as you toggled it.
• Most home computer monitors bore a strong resemblance to TV sets... Because it was your TV set!
• I can’t remember the name of the console, but it had a game called “Haunted House” which required the user to clear plastic sheet which had a picture of a dilapidated Victorian house on it. A ghost would appear in the door or window and then you would shoot it with the light rifle…. Or just any flashlight. Biggest problem with the game were if your TV was not the same size as the plastic sheet, or that you could not play the game in the afternoon when the sun was coming through the window.
• ALL GAMES, were “three lives”, then start over until about 1985.
• The only way to distinguish yourself from your opponent was the color of the piece you controlled
• Insert disk 1 and wait, Insert disk 2 and wait, Insert disk 3 and wait, Please reinsert disk 1 and….
• The announcement on the news that the “Video Game Industry is Dead” and that board games were going to come back because nobody is interested in video games anymore. (About 1983)
