My new mobo, proc, and ram have arrived....just as i finished my changes to a8r1. So, as soon as I finish compiling, uploading, and updating appropriate posts...I will begin the process of trying to not explode my computer while upgrading it.

If I disappear...the worst happened...and she's dead.

Good luck, I recently changed my power source, video card, ram, and added a phys card. I did it all with the help of a friend over the phone (cause I am not a computer guy). Wash your hands, buy a dust spray can and don't wear anything that might cause extra static

I was scared to do any of that stuff at first... I've taken apart my comp in my class now it doesn't bother me anymore. There really isn't much to worry about as long as you pay attention.

Throw that shit away and buy a new heatsink. The ones that come with the processors are garbage and a new one is generally pretty cheap.

Look for one that has a fan attached with metal screws. I had one that had sylicone nubs holding it on and the sylicone melted and the fan broke. No good.

I think I'm going to need to replace a bunch of stuff in my computer soon. I can feel it dying.

Well how about this? I bought a bigger heat sync for my more powerful cpu. It turns out its too big to snap into place, so I set my computer on its side so gravity will keep it in place. But when I turn it over, it will go boom to the bottom of my computer tower.

you know I'm no expert... But that sounds bad..... Don't screw with the heatsink man. Go get one that fits in your computer.

nah. I know what I am doing. No, its not too smart, really, but I am tired of spending money, and its been this way for several months.

You can monitor your CPU temp so you'll know if it is getting too hot. My problem is that once my heatsink fan went I didn't want to buy another heatsink so I replaced it with an uber fan right next to my heatsink. The thing looks like a jet engine and the air flow is like 60CFM. That's what maxed out my power supply but damn does it keep my processor cool.

I survived, though I lost all my VMFs. I'm going to have to decompile my own map to work on it again I think.. silly me.

Downloading steam and all my games should take all night if not longer as well...but I'm very eager to see my new FPS

Protip if you're assembling a computer: stick a copper wire in the small hole between the two prongs on an electrical outlet. That's the ground hole, and you can ground yourself easily with that. If you don't feel good about sticking shit in electrical outlets, though, you can just use your computer case, but that's a bit more dangerous.
