Let's Talk about Alltalk

Why you love it, why you hate it, what you would do with it if you were the guy making the decisions.
I hate alltalk...mostly. When there's just a handful of people on the server and you're probably screwing around anyway, it's nice to have alltalk on. In general though, say 5v5 or more...I prefer to have private voice comms with my team so we can work out plans. "Let's charge the uber" when you're on the first stage of dustbowl is a good signal for the enemy team to try and rush up the back stairs if alltalk is on.
So, if it were up to me this is how I would have it set up:
Setup = alltalk on
Round Start = alltalk off
Round End = alltalk on
Players < 8 - ignore above, alltalk always on.

I kind of agree with what you said. I think that the difference on our server is that we have been playing with each other for so long that we know what to do with each other. If warmonger is playing soldier and one of the regs is a medic, you know who he is sticking with.
We also kind of talk in code. If someone is healing me, I can say "Go this way" or "wait here" and a medic that knows me will know I am talking to him/her and know what I am talking about without the other team knowing.
Also, even when the other team suggest strategies, you don't really know what they are going to do. You have an idea of what they could do but you don't really know what they will do. It is also really fun to tell the other team exactly what you are going to do and then do it and win.
Most of us around here have a high tolerance for chit chat and a medium tolerance for trash talking (personally I can appreciate a well crafted trash talking pointed at me). The problem we have is that when there is a lot of people on, say a full server, and half the people have mics you can't hear what ANYONE is saying. If you can't hear what anyone is saying it is impossible to communicate with your team.
Our server settings has all talk on all the time. I have been thinking about limiting it around 24 but the issue is that I think the too many mics issue doesn't happen very often. I don't like to cater to the minority. I don't know. What does everyone think?

The only problem I have with alltalk is just what cap said. When the server is full you can't hear anything because everyone tries to talk at once. My question though is why isn't there team voice chat?

There is no way to allow in game alltalk and team talk.
The only way to do this is to get a Ventrillo server (which is very cheap). The ventrillo server is basicly an application that allows you to chat with other people connected to the ventrillo server with another key on your keyboard. That would allow us to turn alltalk off and have the in game talk be team talk, while ventrillo is alltalk.

Something that may be the issue with Ventrilo is if everybody doesn't use it. From my experience, anything that isn't built into the game doesn't attract everybody. So say we have a Ventrilo server with 5 people on it (2 in-game, 1 not, 2 AFK), while 10 of the cC members are on the server. If we do head in the direction of Ventrilo, we need to make sure everybody uses it. Bugging players in-game to get on Vent could be a great way.
Perhaps higher admins can get the alltalk commands so if we have a high server population AND the alltalk is spammed (because sometimes it is not), then the admin can just flip the switch and all will be fine. That is something only players can decide, because maybe we have 28 people online and 4 have mics, but alltalk would be turned off from a server preset.

Higher admins can turn all talk on and off already. I thought lower admins could too but I don't remember.

Where's the thing to give you guys negative forum reputation for going offtopic in my wonderful thread?
p.s. Lesser admins should at least be able to /rocketme
p.p.s. So should people that fall into whatever category I'm in.
p.p.p.s. p.s. stands for post script, so the correct next one is p.p.s. not p.s.s.
p.p.p.p.s. Sometimes my alltalk manager fails and it's on when it's supposed to be off. Seems to happen when ppl go spectator. I don't get it.

YOU LIE...
You don't even have a brother.
Anyway if there are more than 10 people on the server all talk should turn off.
