Help with a TF2 crash

Thankfully this doesn't happen very often but when it does it is annoying. Similarly to J4CK8 it happens when I join cC servers although I usually only play on the fun server. But sometimes I get to the Main Screen and TF2 crashes out, but what happens is that the screen tht was on TF2 stays frozen until I clear the error message (I get the Windows Dong that is played when an error occurs and all sound and video from TF2 stops) and I am forced to press space or enter to clear it. I managed to take a screen shot of the actual error message displayed so here it is. Any help as to what causes this error would be gladly appreciated. Please note that this does not happen very often but has happened about 4 times now, last time was the 11th of August when I took this screen shot.

Just to point out that this has just happened again. I had been playing on another server for several hours and then left and joined the funserver. I got to the main screen or the MOTD and the FPS said it was a way down at 5, but then I just got a loop from the game and then the error message again. here it is again:

I'm getting this same crash every so often, it seems that the memory locations are different every time. I don't know much about it but it may just be the random access memory so the locations would be different.

memtest86x+ can help you out with memory testing. bootable ISO images at the link. download the zipped image, burn it to cd, or install to USB key and reboot. let the test run for a few hours if possible -- it will spit any errors out to screen.

incidentally, the dummies from steam support wanted me to run this when i ran into my steam issues a while back. i think they were a bit taken aback when they found out i had already run it to check for bad RAM. wankers.

Maybe this does have something to do with out server's MOTD trying to change images like it does. I get that error all the time and I just wrote it off as another problem with me alt-tabbing out of the game all the time.

It doesn't make any sense, granted, but it may be possible.

Well I hardly ever alt - tab out of games and it does only seem to crash out when joining the cC servers and only when I get to the MOTD. I'll think about running the memtest, kinda busy this week trying to fix a laptop and do some recording for someone. Got another problem which I'll put in another post.
