Do alot of your neighbors have dogs? You could watch thier dogs while they're on vacation or walk thier dog while they're at work. :) You could also house sit for them if they're going somewhere. Like if they have pets, you feed them and give them water while they're away.

Psh I got my first job at 14. You just need to find a less then reputable place that will pay you under the table. I was working 10-12 hour days at $8 an hour all summer back then tax free. I worked at some hick theater at my cottage.

Get a newspaper route.

I googled "texas child labor laws" and here's a list of "Permitted Occupations for 14- and 15- Year Olds"

Permitted Occupatons for 14- and 15-Year Olds

A child who is 14 or 15 years of age may be employed in the following occupations in retail, food service, and gasoline service establishments:

1. Office and clerical work (including operation of office machines).
2. Cashiering, selling, modeling, art work, work in advertising departments, window trimming and comparative shopping.
3. Price marking and tagging by hand or by machine. Assembling orders, packing and shelving.
4. Bagging and carrying out customers' orders.
5. Errand and delivery work by foot, bicycle, and public transportation.
6. Cleanup work, including the use of vacuum cleaners and floor waxers, and maintenance of grounds, but not including the use of power-driven mowers or cutters.
7. Kitchen work and other work involved in preparing and serving food and beverages, including the operation of machines and devices used in the performance of such work such as, but not limited to, dishwashers, toasters, dumbwaiters, popcorn poppers, milk shake blenders, and coffee grinders.
8. Work in connection with cars and trucks if confined to the following:
Dispensing gasoline and oil
Courtesy service on premises of gasoline service station
Car cleaning, washing and polishing
Other occupations permitted by this section

But not including work:
Involving the use of pits, racks or lifting apparatus or involving the inflation of any tire mounted on a rim equipped with a removable retaining ring.
9. Cleaning vegetables and fruits, and wrapping, sealing, labeling, weighing, pricing and stocking goods when performed in areas physically separate from areas where meat is prepared for sale and outside freezers or meat coolers.

Just going off of that list, there's a lot you can do. Since you're 14 you'll probably have to get a work permit (from your school) which your employer and your school counselor will have to fill out and keep on file for you. Here's the link I got that information from if you wanted to look at it. It's quite detailed. http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ui/lablaw/cllsum.html

Have you looked in the usual places (local public places like libraries and whatnot for clerical shit) and stores for bitch work? I mean it's very unlikely you will find a job you will brag about, but minimum wage labour is usually where 14 year olds start...

Me too kindof. But it wasn't Dairy Queen, it was a Dairy Kreme. I got payed dirt wages but got to run it sat/sun 10 to 10 and worked with firends.

The cool thing was we got to eat anything we wanted and we fed alot of friends and practiced bmx freestyle/skating in the parking lot when it was slow.

I was taking an order one time and a tomato hit me in the back of the head, then I started slinging chocolate into the back. After awhile I was pinned in the corner with about 2 cans of whip cream all over me.
Then the owner walked in :woop:
He turned this color> RED, then walked out.
(not all those colors work captian) We didn't hear from him for a few days.

Unfortunately I don't think a corporate enviro like Dairy Queen would be that much fun.
You should try and find a ma and pa shop of some sort if you can. Be a bike shop cardboard guy or something.

Dairy Queen was an awesome job for a 14 year old because I could eat all the ice cream I wanted. I worked at two subsequent food service jobs after that and I would say Dairy Queen was number two.

Whenever you work in food service the worst part is always smelling like whatever you are making. Smelling like that soft serve they have at DQ was way better than smelling like fry grease when I worked at arbys.

Food service jobs come down to a few things:
Dishes, Sweeping/Mopping, helping customers.

The every once in a while you have to do larger cleaning projects like clean all the chairs in the dining room or clean the wall from floor to celing or some bullshit like that. It really isn't that bad and you can usually milk those projects for twice as long as they actually would take if you actually cared.

You don't have to worry about child labor laws. At least in MN a 14 year old couldn't work past 9PM and businesses are usually very happy to follow the rules. The reason for this is that if they don't, they get fined a ton of money and it isn't worth it to them to have you stay at work until 9:05.

For those keeping track, my favorite food service job was a coffee shop. I believe you have to be 16 to do that job since there are lots of hot things. It was my favorite because there was no grease and we didn't have a dining room to clean.

If I liked coffee it would be a cool place to work for, but I don't and my Step Mom isn't letting me get a job because it would affect my financial aid. Which I got but I'll still need it next year.
But I'm fine 'cause she is paying my rent (100 dollars a month at my grandmas) and if I need extra money I just baby sit my brothers and sister or clean their house.
