I looked at the other guides to playing pyro, and they're pretty good, but being a professional I think I know a bit more about playing pyro.

I am going to list the steps on how to be a PROro.

1. Make sure you have a good hat to wear. There's no point in burning people if you don't look good doing it. Don't wear some ugly gibus or alien swarm parasite, you will just die the whole round and look bad doing it.

2. As soon as you can, equip the Backburner, you need it to get the most kills. Don't worry about what else you equip, you aren't going to use any other weapons. The pros only need one weapon.

3. Now for the fighting part. During setup, or the beginning of the round, make sure to call for medic as many times as possible. If your team has a medic he should heal you cause you're the best player on the team, and those heavies/soldiers are no good, that's a waste to heal them. Now you have your medic and you're ready to dominate.

4. As soon as the round starts, head out and search for the enemy. They are out there and they want to get you.

5. Enemy spotted! Time to kill. As SOON as you see an enemy click and hold down your MOUSE 1 button. Stare deep into the eyes of the enemy. Run towards them whilst holding down this button. Keep running, keep holding the button. It doesn't matter how far away they are. If there's a sniper across the entire map, run at him holding the attack button. If there's a heavy/medic team, charge them with fire a blazin. The whole team just came out of spawn? Time to take charge and run at them with all your fiery vengeance.

Follow these steps and you will be a Proro, just like me.

P.S. You can never hold down mouse 1 and forward enough. Keep running, keep burning.

Oh god, NEVER ENOUGH NOTES!

Woah... I would never come up with these clever tactics. now I'm confident I'll be a great pyro. the problem is, I don't have a great hat...

These are pretty good but can I recommend a few additions?

1) Never ever extinguish a friendly player on fire: it's only when they see how powerful that afterburn is that they'll really start to respect your awesome powers and abilities.

2) To prove how pro you are get a flare gun and/or detonator. There is nothing like celebrating your victory with fireworks and/or being able to set yourself on fire to prove your mastery of the element.

3) Do you like chicken? You should. That's why whenever you see a scout you should run at him and try to light him on fire to make chicken wings even if when running backward he is faster then you; it is well worth the effort running the entirety of the map to reach this goal. Stringy but delicious.

UPDATE: You know everything that was said about the Backburner? Fuck it, that thing is a piece of shit. What you need is the new Phlogistinator. Steps 3-5 still apply, only now you have the MMPH taunt. As soon as it is ready, use it. It doesn't matter if you have full health and the only enemy is a medic in the distance, it will be extremely effective. Remember, the sooner the better. That way you can get more MMPH taunts in.
