But not really.
I need a sound card.
Micro PCI Express, hopefully one that is compatible with Vista, i've heard problems.
But my 9800GTX might be in the way, which worries me.
I'd be truly grateful for any suggestions.
Need a dispenser here?

Re: Need a dispenser here?
why do you need a new sound card?
the only reason you should be buying a new soundcard is if your stock card stops working completely.
if you are looking for a higher quality of sound, then i suggest getting a surround sound headset, particularly by Razer.
i had my 5.1 razer headset for a few years before it finally crapped out, and that was because my sister always threw it around..
my gaming hasnt been the same since ive gone back to a stereo headset.

from what i understand from our lead support guy at the office, vista has some issues handling sound properly. apparently these issues have not been fixed in win7 either. something to do with multi-streaming or channelization.bluephyr wrote:But not really.

ill see if he can hook me up with a link outlining the problem.
edit: so the problem he has been having is that you can only output sound to one device at a time. you should be able to do multiple. doesnt sound like the same thing to me. he did mention that there are some sound cards that will work properly under vista, but only because they implement streaming in the hardware and dont rely on drivers to do all the switching work.
you may just want to spend some time doing research to track down one of these properly working cards.
Re: Need a dispenser here?
Screw a sound card, USB headset for the win. On board soundcard for the speakers and the music, and headset for the gaming. Just plug it in and go.

Hah, wow. I've never heard of a USB headset, but I guess I'll look around at some Razor's online. To Newegg!
