For those who haven't heard of it, it's a free to play action MMORPG. Emphasis on "action".

It's different than a lot of MMO's in the fact that it is NOT "click -> walk there -> watch your character hit something". There's actual skill involved. You can pull off combos and dodge attacks. You go through different dungeons with up to 4 other players beating each stage on your way to a boss (sometimes 2). You can tell they actually put a bit of thought into the gameplay. Here's a couple of pictures:

The animations and effects are great. It runs on the source engine, but it still looks pretty damn good. The character customization is kinda crap, ill admit (theres only 3 character types available right now, 2 more on the way), but it kinda makes up for it by making the armor customizable. Armor gets a random colour set when you craft it and you can dye it (i think this requires actual money, don't quote me though).

Equipment also affects gameplay. For example, the character Evie can use either a staff or a scythe. The staff allows you to fight using spells, while the scythe fits her more for getting up close and personal with melee. Both weapons have their own abilities unique to them.

Seriously, try this game out. What do you have to lose? It's bloody FREE. And good. Just keep in mind it's an open beta, therefore not entirely complete. 2 of the playable characters aren't released yet and there still releasing more "episodes".

You can even add me if you want. I'm on the east server under the name MovinTarget9. Just warn me if you do. I don't accept random friend requests.

I'm curious as to how you could get a real MMO working on Source engine.

Added a link to the topic.

I may be getting it, it looks sweet enough for a try. The problem is that in games like this I'm scared to go to dark dungeons and all that stuff ( yes I suck) , without a travel buddy. ( can't believe I am telling you guys this).
:negative:

but it's worth a try!!
:awesome: :respek: :mufasa:

If I'm luck I can convince Vile to get this game, so the exp won't be that frightining.

don't worry bought that lol. the starter dungeons are all pretty well lit :P
its only when you get to the ice dungeon that it gets a bit dark and cramped. and then there's the third area with vampires and such...

Maplestory, combat arms, mabinogi, you gotta pay for any of the good stuff

Not Really

yeah, but i haven't really noticed anything you need to pay for in this game. You can get storage chest expansions (temporary or permanent), but other than that it's all for show, like character hair styles with small boosts, most of which are temporary. It may change in the future, but it's really enjoyable right now anyway. also, unlike those games, you don't need insane gear to enjoy yourself.

This game has potential, but sadly falls short of what you would expect from a "real" MMORPG. No vast worlds to explore, everything is limited to WoW-like trading and instanced dungeons. The game takes tokens given out a few times a week in order to just play, and if you run out you have to BUY more. Because of this and other factors, leveling is limited and is slowed down. I'll keep my eye on it but it's not enough to fully convince me this game is worth playing past the beginner dungeons.

You were ruined as soon as you went public. :isee:

But, being serious, how was it ruined exactly?

The reason for it being a bit limited is that it's on source engine. The poor girl probably can't handle vast areas the way WoW does.

It doesn't really work like those kind of mmo's though. The dungeons are seperate from the town. Think of like L4D where you make a lobby and then jump in. Then you work you're way to the end and a finale.

It's a fun game, doesn't feel nearly as grindy as some MMOs. Though the whole Boat tokens thing annoys me. Also for some reason I feel as though the mage lady in it is a bit more powerful than the other characters.

Probably because she has ranged spells. Trust Me though, she's pretty low in overall dps. Her saving grace is that she can hang back a bit and stay out of range of boss attacks. Unless you're a scythe wielding evie.

Yeah, but her magic shields are ridiculous, and she can make golems now so... yeah.

And the new guy they're adding can use grabs on bosses and stop big bosses smash attacks.

The magic shields are very nice things :P They go down fast in later bosses though. especially with 'damage over time' effects x_x and they take for EVAR to recharge. (35 seconds to begin regen and 5 seconds between each shield after that.) I usually just run around and heal people while it does, since I'd probably die in a single hit without it.

I can't wait for the big guy to come out. He looks like he can kick a fair amount of ass.

To tell you the truth, there's a lot of repeating dungeons. But each boss is pretty unique at the end of them, so there's a lot of shifting your strategies around. For example, one boss has a giant hammer and he spins around like a roflcopter, leaving him stagered for a few seconds. You don't want to stay near him for too long.
A much later boss though, uses a spear arm and fireballs. He's much faster than the other boss and his fireball is a ranged attack that will rape your ass, making him a whole new challenge.
