calculatedChaos First Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

In addition to our normal members weekend, we will also be having a pumpkin carving contest. The rules are simple:
  • Carve as many pumpkins as you want, in whatever way you wish.
  • Post two pictures of the pumpkin on this thread. One is during the day with you holding the pumpkin so we know that you carved it. The second one is at night with a candle so we know how bad-ass it looks. You can post more pictures if you would like.
  • Submissions are due the first day of members weekend (Friday, October 29th). A winner will be selected by me and a panel of judges. The winner(s) will be announced on Halloween and prizes will be given out that night (or after if you win and can't make it).
The number of winners will depend on how many submissions we get. The prizes will also depend on the number of submissions, but it will most likely be either TF2 items that I can get my hands on before Halloween or steam games or both.

Good Luck!

-Captain

As long as you have a daytime, nighttime and a few angles, you should NEED to have yourself in the pic. It's a little more difficult to prove it's you but you should be able to work it out.

Just don't try and pass someones work off as your own.

I thought about someone from the community (not saying who) running up to a random persons house, stealing their pumpkin, then passing it off as their own.

If anyone gets caught doing this, their punishment will be way worse than the crime. This isn't a democracy.

cut the bottom off and pull the seeds out from the bottom not the top. it makes it easier to light a candle at night. also you can print off templates from web sites most of them are decent but their are a few really good sites out there you just need to look in the right place.

I'm doing mine freehand, no kit designs. I'll put the pics here the week of the 29th, don't want them to rot before Halloween.

Yeah, in Florida the pumpkins rot fairly quickly so we usually do fake ones. C:

thats because the humidity is 100% for most of the year in florida. my record for keeping a pumpkin without it rotting was a week.

i printed out the cC logo and trogdor, took a mini spike roller and traced the design, then cut through the preforated area on the pumpkin. The cC logo was the opposite where i cut out the outside of the circles.Last year, i left trogdor in and cut around him, thus having a gimpy buff arm. Didn't look good to say the least.

These both were freehand. The Tat one looked MUCH better originally, but one of the teeth broke off so i had to improvise. I really like how the other one came out though.

My original idea was to do a cC logo, but i only had enough for 2 pumpkins and i already had the other 2 ideas. Halfway through the first one, that cheap ass little saw they include in kits broke so i had to do the rest with knives that kept slipping out of my hands because of the pumpkin guts.

hanzo...ill take the challenge....NOT. That looks like if i start to do that, it would take at least a week to be done with the top part of the head lol. That is really kickass tho.

joe, i went through 3 carving kits because of these shitty knives, but they really did the trick when it came to carving those tight corners and the smallest of edges.
