Havn't found any support forums on steam about this, figured you guys could help. Mainly TF2, no icon shows up, just that error-type icon. I could get icons for some games (i.e. Alien Swarm) by digging through program files and whatnot, but I can't find one for TF2 and adding a shortcut to the desktop through steam on any game just gives that "Missing Icon" paper. (Not exactly sure what to call that, sorry.) Any idea how I can fix this?

Right click your desktop.
Click new.
Click shortcut.
Type Right click your new shortcut.
Click change icon.
Replace it with a a TF2 logo.

That should work... maybe. If you put this in the help desk section then people who actually know what they are doing might help you.
