Connection Packet Loss Help
I've been having trouble with the internet since i got it installed.
I just want opinions.
I run a ping test on pingtest.net and I get 70-99% packet loss.
I run a ping test in the command prompt to yahoo.com and receive virtually no packet loss.
There's something definitely wrong and its not the modem or my computer. I've had 4 techs come out so far and they can't find anything wrong cuz they use the cmd prompt to check ping. Its most noticeable when I browse. Pretty often I have to reload a page a couple of times before it will load.

Try pingtesting other sites, If its just pingtest.net then its the sites fault.

Maybe it's a problem with the router? I had the same problem using a Belkin N router.

4 different techs have come out. They ping with the command prompt and find nothing wrong. What I am wondering is why the command prompt ping would be ok, but any test on the internet says im losing packets like crazy.Egonny wrote:Have you contacted your ISP?

Re: Connection Packet Loss Help
Hmm, when I contacted mine (by phone), they sent out a ping from the central to my connection, no techs needed (they didn't find any problem though :-/).Beetle wrote:4 different techs have come out. Are any of your neighbours affected too? My problem was that my ISP upgraded the download rate and my modem went crazy (so I was not the only one). But since they already sent 4 techs, I'd recommend choosing another ISP, as they won't help you much when you're in trouble IMO.

Well, the only broadband one. I'd rather not be stuck with a max of 6Mbps.PhrozenFlame wrote:Charter's the only ISP in Beetle's location.

Re: Connection Packet Loss Help
problem solved. it actually was the modem this last time and the line the first few times. so it was just bad timing.

Re: Connection Packet Loss Help
lazy ass techs. assuming you dont own your modem, they should have done this first thing. its usually pretty brain dead easy for a tech to do, and cuts a bad modem out of the picture quick. stupid.Beetle wrote:problem solved. it actually was the modem this last time and the line the first few times. so it was just bad timing.
