Funserver vs. Mainserver

Unread post by Bishop »

[EDIT] My questions have been answered, no more answers are necessary. Thanks guys ^_^

Okay, so many people strongly voice their opinions about how they hate the fun server, and how it's the asshole of cC. I could understand where you're coming from. Mind you, I said :airquote: could :airquote: I'm not here to start a flame war or complain or any of that, I'd just like to legitimately ask this.

Why do people complain about the fun server to no end, but the only time I see them is hanging out ON the fun server? Also, if main is better, why is it always empty? It has players for maybe an hour a day, at midday from my experience.

Now, to be my own devil's advocate, Yes, the fun server can be hell. Admin abuse, people raging at others, crappy maps... But oddly enough it's a fun hell. I like most of the people there, I like the community, I like cC. But please tell me, why do people say the main server is phenomenally better than the fun server, but nobody is EVER on it?

**Before you post, I want to clear up a few things and reiterate important things to avoid flame wars: Despite my wording, I AM simply asking, not complaining about the complainers. I don't mind, I just don't understand. ALSO, before you go calling me a noob who doesn't know the server traffic like you do, I've been on the cC servers for some time now, and just recently joined the forums.**

A: The little kiddies/trolls/idiots

B: All the annoying people that complain about the admins on it

C: Retarded admins that ban/kick people for no goddamn reason

D: Crap/gimmicky maps

E: People have lives and can't play on the main server 24/7

F: Just about everyone who plays on the funserver doesn't even know about the main server, let alone know it's IP Address

G: It's just flat out bad.

H: Whatever the other people who post are about to say about it.
Life is whatever.

Okay, that explains why you hate the fun server. So why isn't anyone from cC ever on the Main server? People talk about it all the time but never go there. It's always empty.

lets put it like this, the mainserver never has anyone in it, and its a sad thing, but its one of thoes things, where everyonce in a while, when its filled with people, it just puts all other servers to shame, pure fun and enjoyment.
so one day, i was on the server and i was trying to build a senty with tgame. i counted down "3,2,1,"then BAM. SERVER CRASH. then some pacman.

What Tomm said was completely correct, the custom maps server can create some serious fun when it has people. I personally use the funserver as a last resort option should all of my other decent servers be empty (most likely like Bishop). The funserver CAN be decent but it's RARE. My example of this is when we're playing an actual cp or payload map with nobody under 13 using a mic such as Spycrab and Oemtester. For instance today was fine, Mario Bros. map with the only people with mics were Spleenter, Moving Target, and some admin I forget.

I like your style Bishop, your different from the influx of funserver retards we usually get on the forums. You've earned your +1 admin.

The reason the main server has less people on average is that most healthy adults work jobs and live their lives during the day, while children do not and thus have time to play in the morning and afternoon.

When the funserver first opened, I fucking loved it. It was a place for an admin to project their rage and a place for fun maps that weren't serious enough for the main server, mostly cyberpunk and rainbow. At the time, cC was still fairly small and all the people who played regularly were still from ye olde SM (me being one of them) and were pretty close. But then something happened and the server became flooded with children with various social problems and fetishes. Every time I logged on to that server, I was up to my tits with admin requests and stupidity that I have mostly stopped heading there all together.

Of course not all funserverers are prepubescent shit heads, Bishop here being a prime example, but all 98% of them do is complain and throw their feces at each other while trying to get between maps that were made by a 12 year old dry humping his keyboard while the SDK happened to be open.

In closing, the funserver is a lot like Buffalo NY. A lot of cool stuff used to be there but now it's all gone save a bunch fucking annoying people.

So I finally experienced first-hand how fun the Main Server can be. I found that if just three or four people join when it's deserted people perk up and join, and it fills up fast. This should happen more often. It's great :)

The only reason the funserver is always full is because "fun" attracts trolls and newbies. Simple as that. Doesn't mean the every now and again it doesn't reel in a good catch, but looking for diamonds in a shit storm is rarely worth it.

My 3 current pet peeves are, W+M1 pyros, People without proper intro threads, and players on my team lacking common sense. Mainserver sadly contains the first and last of my pet peeves. Backburners galore and fucking idiots that can't tell a spy from their own ass. Funserver is worse though.

For god's sake, Backburner does not equal W+M1. I'm tired of this. Backburner was made for people who'd rather sneak off and almost instant kill specific enemies to death than support their team with a frontal assault. Believe it or not, playing Backburner Pyro correctly is in fact, the HARDEST class to play. Why? Because it's like playing Spy in that you have to sneak around enemies and take out specific targets. it's HARDER than Spy because A: You can't cloak, so it's hard to sneak up behind an actually aware team, and B: You can't Disguise, so it's hard to actually kill the person. Backburner Pyros are Pyros who'd rather play the class at it's best range: Right behind the enemy.

Your entire fucking paragraph of a rant was entire bullshit. The backburner is indeed W+M1 because Hmmm.. maybe the +50% damage with fire and no airblast? You don't need the shotgun because of the extra damage if your that close and you always want to ignite the enemy first. I know to fucking play my non W+M1 pyro, you apparently don't. And by the way, most fucking backburner pyros don't "sneak around" like a spy. They just charge and hope for the best.

Did I say that was the correct way to play Backburner Pyro? No, I did not. That's the wrong way. Crits > Rush. Sure, the +50% damage makes it EASIER to W+M1, but not every pyro plays Backburner like that, and not every pyro uses the Backburner to W+M1. I've seen pyros W+M1 with the regular flamethrower. Not rare. I play Flamethrower Pyro too, and I do, in fact, use the airblast, and the axe. It is, in fact, harder to sneak around the enemy and live than to reflect things. I hope this post has taught you not to assume things.

The amount of utter bullshit your spewing is unbelievable. The difficulty of reflecting things varies based on the object from a rocket to an arrow. Your also implying that it's the pyro's single tactic with a backburner to sneak around and ambush people, that certainly doesn't sound offensive to me. The pyro is an OFFENSIVE class, ambushing is NOT OFFENSIVE. Most objects are hard to reflect back in contrast to merely taking a side route and ambushing the enemy. Also, if your sneaking around and attacking the enemy, are you still not W+M1 while attacking the enemy from behind? I hope this post has taught you how to properly play pyro.

It's not my fucking fault he's trying to defend the W+M1 pyro, they require the least amount of skill to play. I making it my 4th pet peeve, "People that don't know shit about playing pyro." They're everywhere.

Re: Funserver vs. Mainserver

Unread post by HurTmePlentY »

server pet peeves.. sounds like we finally came back to the topic of the OP. :D

i for one dispise the fun server. i loath it. everything i dont like when looking for a place to play is there.
1. the same gimmicky maps on a never ending cycle
2. noone give 2 cents about actually playing
3. if there is a decent map there are people who imediately rtv and say lets melee only
4. people dont try on jump maps or always go to the crappy ones (skyscraper_#) and admins will either noclip or slap themselves to the end of the map.
5. there are admins who get on just to troll the server (if i see it happen, it does not make me happy)
6. admins on the funserver think administrator means anything i say goes, if not you are getting a kick/ban
7. younger players who get on and imediately ask for admin, and join the forums and make 1 post and tell everyone to vote for them. when they do not want to have any part of this community; just admin.
8. people try and arguing when i remove/kick for an indecent spray saying its not, and bring other admins in on for their side.

thats a powerful index of incompatability.
