ROFL. At my school everyone had to rent a laptop from the school and we all had tons of illigal shit on there.

How would they know if something is illigal or legit? The answer? They have no way of knowing.

The only stuff you would have to worry about is maybe a torrent program (or limewire if you are gypsy). If you have cracked software like an entire OS or a copy of photoshop you downloaded, they would have no way of knowing if it was legit or not.

they want the proof of purchase and the cd that came with it. they require you to not have vista home and charge you to replace it with office and they said it would have to delete it all. which im not doing so im going to upgrade it to ultimate because i dont want to lose all my files!

If I was you, I'd find a better college. Or just dual boot an accepted OS on there and run it like it's clean ;).

I'd just hand them an old one that I no longer use.

Which college? I'm going to UT Austin in August and with as many people are there I don't know if it would be possible at certain schools to do it for everyone, at least a decent job of looking for the illegal files.

And what could they do to tell if you are lying if you just said you don't have one and take it with you anyway?

WTF???!

Tell them the reason you want a higher education is because you want to be a lawyer who specializes in
4th Amendment cases.

If any "higher up" at my college asked to see my laptop to check for illegal software, I'd laugh, and walk away.
Screw that.

If it was that'd be slightly understandable but still isn't that invasion of privacy? I'd do the same thing Liquid would but question why I still have it...

just an update, i got my ultimate a few says back and it had 32-bit on it, but i needed 64-bit. so i ordered new cd's and i finally got them and it had me have to reinstall everything and i was like WHOW NOT GOING THAT ROUTE. so i contacted microsoft and they said the laptop i got from the company installed a corrupt version of windows on it and thats why it isnt letting me progress. so i have to backup all my stuff on my old HDD (thankfully i still have it) and reinstall and port it back.

gah pissing me off
