The map looks just like how it's described in the title, it's a stairwell. There are screenshots of this in the link. This is my first map so please comment about this in the map discussion forum.

Adding a cubemap and/or some lighting may help.

Without a cubemap, all reflective surfaces will be screwed up with that pink/black texture, and some kind of light source other than fullbright makes any map look generally less hideous.

Yah, I didn't know much about cubemaps and I had an annoying light problem that made me want to skip using lights, thx for the comments.

I downloaded this and it was just the vmf file. I need a bsp if we're going to play it.
