Riftoff's Big Dumb Community Map Idea

This at a theoretical stage right now, but I recently had an idea for a new map we'll "play" once, and forget about. Basically everyone makes a single room (we may have to dictate size limits) in their own style, but for fun we'll try to make them as horrible as possible. For example a room split in half by a misplaced skybox, one side is egyptian, the other is alpine; or a maze made of that one rock prop you can get stuck in by jumping into it; or a room filled with small windows that have a grainy picture on the outside (perhaps something in the sexy department? ) but when you try to look at them up close your vision has the same effect when you fall outside a map (I think that's caused by being outside the skybox).

Anyway, someone a little more experienced at map making would connect it all together with hallways and spawn rooms. We'd call it the The_CC_Museum. Anyone willing?

A community map isn't a bad idea, but I certainly don't see why you'd make it intentionally horrible.

I'm a fan of irony, and trying to make a coherent map with rooms made from inexperienced mappers is next to impossible were enough reasons for me.

we know some good mappers though. just say to make it good and some will turn out bad anyway

Just had a thought regarding this, maybe we could make a larger version of arena_grid with each of the rooms?

We had a contest in the Thief community a few years back. The Crap FM contest.

Basically the same idea except everyone made their own map.

Mine was really cheesy texture wise and whatnot and I thought my idea would work.
Basically you were a master thief who suddenly gained a concience and you had to take all the stolen loot back to it's owners.

But I couldn't make myself purposely make newb mistakes throughout the mission as I had been learning NOT to do that for years.

It's easy enough to slap stuff together off the grid and whatnot but I just see it as a tremendous waste of time to make a map that isn't worth playing more than once.

If nothing else, people who are intested in map making could start with something simple like this to get a feel for everything.
