Keeping a computer on for 6 hours isn't the cause of the problem. Though if you smelled burning then something probably overheated. Does anything turn on now on the computer?

Could just be lack of cooling on your graphics card. If it is fan-cooled, try cleaning out the fan with a vacuum if you've never done that before.

temporary fix is to have a fan blowing into your computer....oh and removing dust from the fans like he said. also dont have the tower sitting on a carpet floor.

use a dry cloth to lightly wipe it. you can tell by looking if its really dusty

That tells you your problem. its overheating but not to the point where it damaged it...yet. So in the future you need more cooling. Dusting it can only make it cooler.

indeed. regular cleaning is always a good idea, especially if you have pets in the house.
is your rig on the floor? if so, see if you can move it up to a desk top, or get some risers of some sort. it really does make a difference, and your equipment will last _much_ longer.
i usually clean my rigs with a proper microfibre dust cloth, and canned air. you should be able to pick up canned air at any pc or office supply store.
