LOL you can now post on people's steam pages! I got a bunch of "firsts!" and don't any of you remove them, cause I earned those!!!!!!

I deleted the one in mine on principal. Comments on profiles like this is stupid and I won't be keeping anything in mine unless someone posts something worth keeping.

I almost forgot I had a Steam page.

yea -- profile comments are just stupid. ill be rm'ing them as well.

i can hear someone at valve saying something along the lines of, "hey, wouldnt it be great if you could leave messages for people just like Facebook(TM)!!".

In the update they said something about adding new features to the steam community stuff. I would appreciate if they cleaned up their community stuff since it doesn't work very well but making steam facebook would just piss me off.

I agree, they should leave Facebook on Facebook. I can understand if you want to leave someone a message for something like scheduling a match, but just for random stupid comments I think is the dumbest thing.

I never removed it, I just think it is a stupid idea that Facebook is spreading like Cancer. I admit I am on Facebook, but I am not addicted to it, hell I only check it like 2 or 3 times a week, tops.

I have had more conversations about facebook this week then I would like in my entire life. I could rant for an hour about how much I hate it but it boils down to this:

On every other site on the internet, people craft themselves into how they want to be perceived by that particular community. You might withhold an embarrassing story or embellish facts, but most people will do something to help define who they are within that community.

With facebook people do this for their real life. You post five cool bands as your favorite bands so that everyone else that pretends to like emo music thinks you're cool. You spend hours trying to think of a witty status message so people think you are smart. You friend everyone you have ever heard of or seen so people think you are popular. People look at this shit and think these things are true about you without ever speaking with you, it is complete bullshit. Us crazy people spend lots of time fooling people in real life so that people think we are 'normal' or 'interesting' and you do it on a goddamned web page for everyone to see.

The other problem with facebook is that it is the worst cross section of people ever. You can't put the 4chan kids with the general population. People get offended when you tell them to Die in a Fire or make fun of them which is widely acceptable everywhere else on the internet.

God damnit, i'll just stop now while I still can. If any of you can find my profile on facebook you can friend me. I won't ever post anything and no one can post on my wall.

The only reason I use facebook is because my friends don't know how to use email. None of the features appeal to me except for the Inbox, which is the only one I use.

I understand your reservations about Facebook (should I include Myspace too?) but there is something that you need to know and understand if you want to exist in this century. In the next few years, the only way you are going to be able to get a job is if you have a facebook page. Sooner or later Facebook (or something like it) will be THE social AND business networking site. All of your contacts, both business and social will have some connection there. People are already adding their Facebook profiles to their resumes, and sooner or later some employers will only use Facebook to hire people. Think about this, in one place you will be able to find most of the information you want to know about a potential employee. For instance, if you have two resumes that look very similar, then go to the two individuals' Facebook pages, you might find that one is a complete drunken idiot and the other is a sober responsible adult. Then you know who will be the better employee (the drunken idiot of course). So to all the kids out there, DO NOT POST STUPID SHIT ON YOU FACEBOOK AND MYSPACE PAGES, because future employers and EVEN COLLEGE ADDMISSIONS personel will be looking at your pages and finding out just how fucked up you are. So if your Facebook and Myspace pages have marijuana leaves pasted all over them and links to porn sites don't expect the brightest future. HINT HINT, add your teachers/professors OMG that will so get you a goof job/internship/recomendation!!!!!!

Yes, if you have a public profile with you being a drunken idiot and someone sees it they are going to think you are a drunken idiot. The easy solutuion to this is to make your profile available to friends only. I had two facebooks for a while because people from my old job (Best Buy Corp. HQ) all started signing up in droves when they released the API. You could easaly have a business account and a personal account if you wanted.

You are so wrong about people using facebook as THE social and THE business networking tool in the future. It will never happen. By the time the teens that are so fond of it are running things something else would have already come along and taken facebook out. Also, facebook is only this popular in America. Something that replaces business networking would have to be drasticly different than facebook. Look at Linked In and see the differences. Facebook just isn't geared twards that.

The only reason Facebook is even popular is because it used to be limited to people in select colleges. Now that they opened it up to everyone and allow everyone to post garbage to their profiles, it's going to go down just like MySpace did.

i dont use facebook or any of those other social net sites. not only are they a total waste of time, i think its digs into your personal life just a bit too much. im pretty paranoid with my personal info on the net -- and i dont think this is a bad thing in the case of facebook.

Search a name in the steam community search, or right click a friend's name in your friends list and there's an option.

That's just plastic posting "I'M YOUR FIRST COMMENTER" on a lot of people's comment spaces in their page.

It's a standard forum/comment thing where people will try and be the 'First' commenter on the specified topic or page. Typically you have to do this quickly because other people will try and do the same thing so the fastest thing to type to still convey that you were the first person there is to simply put 'First' as your entire message.
