'Buying' admin

Unread post by benharris5 »

How much should I donate to grease the proverbial wheel into letting me become an admin?

You don't "buy" admin, heck you can't buy anything. The only thing you can do on this site is donate, but if someone is an avid donator perhaps it would be in our best interest to give that man some rights to the server which he so generously supported. Perhaps.

Well, does $20 help? Just donated that, and I plan on doing a $5/month subscription as soon as I get admin. 8-)

potato potato. I've donated before and as soon as I did I became admin. This was when it was more like SM's form of picking members.

I voted yes when he introduced himself. He was just easily recognizable as the opposite of people like genericrandomnumbers, hellfire, rudedog, the list goes on.

Ty all, as of now I have +2 :don: :leo: :mike: :raph:

On a somewhat related note, you all might want to make some way for the amount you have donated to cC show up in your profile/username area.

I disagree. Donating is cool. If you enjoy the server help keep it running. But to showcase how much you donated is just bragging.

If I ever figure out special admin powers for people who donated I'll add a badge that says weather or not you donated. It wouldn't say how much but it would give you a little something extra.

OK, that's cool. I apparently wasn't thinking when I made the suggestion for the exact amount to be displayed.

I still say we put google ads on the fun server somehow (make a mod or something) if we can, people are always on it and you should be able to make a bit of money from it

Just put them in the MOTD page - nobody reads them anyway, but we all load the page!

or you could have them show up in the chat at random intervals, that way they're seen more, AND you could let donators disable them for their computer

You only get monies from google ads when people click on the ads which is never.

The only way you can make money with ads on a forum is to put them everywhere and make it so people who donate don't have to see the ads. I use Ad Block Plus for FireFox and haven't seen ads on a webpage in a really long time.

I heard tell that a plugin just got released for chrome that does the same thing.

Anyway, I'm not a big fan of generic ads. The only way you will see ads on here is if:
1.) I find some ad service that will allow me to put ads on here that people will actually like and click on (think geek or something like that).
2.) We get big enough were related companies actually want to pay us directly for hosting their ads for a given time/number of page views.
3.) I make a system where donators can post an ad somewhere of their choosing (most likely an inside joke or jab at someone else).

The only way ads work nowadays are if an incentive is given, like filling out surveys for virtual money (Farmville from Facebook).

I have a feeling that if there was some definite reward for donating, more people would do it. For example, you still have to earn low admin, but you can then 'buy' higher admin functions as you want/need them.

I wish I could buy higher admin functions... I've already donated $20. But that was a while ago. Nor did I ever really tell anyone but captain.

Also another thing, if 30 (maybe 31? I don't remember) did the $5 a month cC subscription, Captain wouldn't have to pay for the server :D

Well, you just let THAT cat out of the bag. >.<

Seriously though, I would love to be able to slap people for 0 damage.

Yeah, but I don't care that much anymore. It's already had its effect (the first time I was admin).
