Hey now, the flare gun has merit to. Since they added the mini crit on someone on fire it's kinda nice. Plus having that range is sweet. I just recently started using it.

Because the shotgun has good ranged damage and can counter snipers, good idea.

The flare is actually good coupled with the axetinguisher since it takes less time to pull out and fire (no pun intended). Just light em and quick switch to smack em.
I will admit that lighting them with the flamethrower then airblasting them in a corner is much more effective, but unless there's a wall it just knocks them away letting them get away or kill you.
Also, on snipers, if you can hit them it will sometimes screw up their shot or to even retreat for health. It's also great for burn-and-retreat tactic if you can't get in close enough.
It all depends on what you're aiming to do.
