The water thing is a leak issue. And if the floor wall are func_details then that's your leak.
Gotta select them and hit 'turn to world' on the right hand menu.
Then hide func_details again and check.
The no shadows cast from props also hints at leaks
(map>load pointfile to check, the red line will go through leak)

Reflection on the water, did you build cubemaps after compile? Probably doesn't matter as Beetle will have to do that for the completed map, but you can test to see if it fixes reflections. Fix leak first.

The problem with using Half life props is that if someone doesn't own half life, they can't see it (unless you pack it-which gives them free content/legal rant here), so they'll probably see a big red model of the word ERROR.

what he said ^

also, its not really free content. I have not installed Half-life 2 ever on this computer or any episode of it. I still have access to basic models such as the headcrab.

Alright, fixed the leak. I turned the extra walls around the water into func_details by accident.

Figured out cubemaps, reflecting just fine now. Thank ya.

I assumed you shouldn't have access to certain models if you don't have those games, but I only have TF2 and I still have quite a few half-life models, including the ivy.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0068F4CX If you haven't already fixed it yourself.

The the model thing...

The 'legal' argument is always that you don't own it... Most of the time that is more about taking say Morrowind content (Bethesda owned content) and putting it into TF2 (Valve).

Though it's probably not as big of a deal from Valve>Valve games. And especially since there are packs like the Orange Box where you get it all. And of course Garry's Mod which is made to use all that stuff together.

Not sure about Beetle's reasoning specifically, just giving the standard argument. But if you don't own/have HL installed but you can still access some models that probably breaks down the argument even more. (I have it installed so it's hard to say what can/can't be accessed.)

So you're left with:

It doesn't 'fit' TF2, which most fun maps don't anyway.

And whatever reason Beetle said since he's in charge.

---------
Needless to say I'm bored out of my mind right now...

My reasoning was simple. In the hotel, people went overboard using HL2 props. I don't want that. I don't see how having HL2 zombies in a tf2 map makes someone clever or creative...or cool.

Ah, that reminds me, I still need to post Spleenter's room!
ccdorm_room_Spleenter.rar
(868.46 KiB) Downloaded 206 times
Considering the success I've had with both of the rooms I made previously, I have a feeling that something random is going to be wrong with this room that will totally screw up everything. So yeah, be on the lookout for that.
(If anything, it's the archived textures.)
Come to think of it, I should probably get Spleenter to give it a final go-through and aw crap he's not on right now so what the heck. :V

http://www.mediafire.com/?so72g061z17i2wd (The Engineering Students room)

(17 Static Props and two Dispensers (Should be 1 for each team))

http://www.mediafire.com/?8y7yniuy3b7p61c (DIck's Trollalalalala Room)

(13ish Static Props 2 Ammo Packs and a Health pack (Only can be used by Blue) and a a Red Sentry Gun )

ALL PROPS AND ALL BUT MAYBE ONE TEXTURE IS FROM TF2

i looked at it after extracting all the files where they needed to go and i think it looks good. good job OMJ, now to wait and see if Beetle likes it.

I can say that I like the fact that you made it an attachment and not a megaupload. that is already extra points.

OMJ: I think you're really starting to get the hang of this. Detail and overall theme of the room aside, the fact that I had to adjust nothing is really nice and saves me time...even lowering the diameter of where the sounds can be heard is something I would have had to adjust, but nope. GJ

Thanks, I appreciate your approval.

This room was definitely the hardest I've had to do so far, the main reason being that, unlike LaN, who developed the whole room layout, Spleenter just gave me the overall theme of the room and a few objects that should be inside it (such as the operating table, the sink, and the weapons tray).

Having such a large amount of creative freedom was very daunting, but I think by the time I was done I really felt confident in my ability to create interesting layouts.

Also, the only reason I had put my previous submissions on Megaupload before is because that was what everyone else was doing. I didn't even realize I had made this one an attachment until after I had done it. :awesome:

You should employ me for designs. I have a knack for those kinds of things ;)

Beetle, I got a VMF File for my new room, is that all you need? Cause it only saved my room as a VMF. :?

What is it that you downloaded in the first place. There ya go. Do you have any custom content? Only questions you need to ask yourself....not to mention you did the hotel last time...its no different.

ill give it a look in a bit, but making a map without testing it in-game is such bad practice.

dick trickle, i point you to this page: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Func_detail

reupload your room with the correct optimizations. this is the easiest form and would have taken you all of 2 seconds to look at if you would have read my first post.

t00bz, do you just close your eyes and click buttons when you make your rooms?

it has a leak, aka the biggest possible error a map could have. reupload when its fixed

if you don't remember it's fine, but there was only one leak, right?

There's only ever one leak. When you fix it you find out if there's another. Fix it...

How did you make a small cube leak anyway?

I could tell him, Original, but he should at least know he HAS a leak before I tell him. That's just lazy to not compile and test for errors.

It's that his prop_statics are sticking outside of the room. Could this potentially not be a problem? Sure. But it could turn out to be a problem, and mostly importantly, I am stubborn.
