Got a question. When i run test, my prop_details (comps, tables, HL2 train chairs) dont show up but my bed will. This probably leads to the other guy's problem. Elaborate more plz on the whole "drawing a box over it" technique.
First off with the sealing thing. Maps cannot be compiled unless they are completely sealed off from the "void" or else they will cause a leak. The "void" is all that black around your map in hammer. The only thing that can seal things from the void are world brushes - that means no to displacements and entity brushes, yes to brushes covered in skybox. for now, just literally put a hollow brush-made box around your entire room with the skybox texture over all of it. If you look in your compile log you will find where it says if you have a leak.

Also, I recommend making those prop_details prop_statics. That being said, some props aren't meant to be prop_statics...like anything that can be blown up (and moved) if you remember from half-life 2.

I suck at mapping, if I am unable to get it done I guess mine will mirror Montag's. But if I do end up with flying dicks, could they at least do splash damage?

I've tried making a room on my own and I really cannot do it for my life.

Just a room with some posters on the wall of images I PM you and maybe a trap door or two.
You already have the room made for you. You said you've tried, but I honestly don't believe you. If all you want is posters that takes literally 2 minutes to learn and 2 more minutes to execute. Also, I don't make custom textures. Its like people who don't do windows. They can, but its annoying to them.

I have the texture/material made for the poster but I just can't figure out what to do with it from the template.
When I open the template its just all lines on all 4 of the screens =/

I can pm you the folder with the .vmt and .vtf of the poster I want.
I just need to apply it to a rectangle on the wall to make a poster I think

the 4 boxes are 4 separate views. From top to bottom, left to right, its 3D view, aerial view, then 2 side views. To center your camera on the middle of the whole thing go to edit and select all then hit ctrl+e and then ctrl+shift+e (this one centers your 3D camera on w/e is selected. Now hover over the top left box and hit z. now you can zoom around the room like if you were in spectate. hit z again to show your mouse again.

See if its easier to see now.

edit: also, to put posters/etc onto walls use the overlay too. Its the one that looks like a square pot with grass in the middle (on the left side of Hammer). then in 3D view, just click on the wall you want it on.

im just haveing an update saying that i am around 89% done with my map :D its accutally pretty simple with like 10 very visible secrets :D so i cant wait till Aug 1st :D

if you've made the vmts and vtfs correctly (aka the extensions required to make a texture) then just drop them into your tf/materials folder.

The tutorial I followed must've been older.

I'm setting some kind of beam trap but I can't name my beams or targets -.-

Looking good.
Depending on how many ppl put health/ammo in their rooms I might take some out/make them lesser versions.

another feature you dont have to worry about because ill do it, but while testing your map if you want to get those pink and black reflections to go away type buildcubemaps in console then reload your map.

i've got like, a gabajillion problems

i still haven't figured out the music shit
when i play, some props are missing, even after i make it "prop_dynamic"

and by the way zarik, what's the sink you found called
all i have is a little pipe for a drain and a valve for water...which is kinda shitty

if anyone could give me a tutorial of some kind or help me, i'd put you in the credits :P

And two questions:

1: Are creatures allowed? I have a Headcrab on my couch and I have it as Prop_dynamic. This is allowed, right?

2: I know you said we can't have a trigger hurt the kills you as soon as you walk in, but can we have a trigger hurt that kills in a secret area in our room?

yes, and as a matter o fact, you can change the wall textures. I was really strict at the beginning, but everyone wants to use hl2 textures and props (which in my opinion looks terrible) but I've just given up cuz i keep forgetting things to specify.

The only thing that I won't change is don't change the shape of the room.

2. yes, but i just warn you that if its something that will annoy and surprise a bunch of players no one will want to go into your room.
