I was actually thinking about starting another server but I can't figure out what kind of server to add that won't hurt other servers.

This might be a good option.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe with a forced rotation (rtv takes you to the next map). New maps replace the old ones every week or two.

But that might also hurt the customMaps server, with the split and all. Whatever it will be, it has to be completely different from what the customMaps server is.

If we expand to another game it shouldn't hurt the TF2 servers.

I don't think we should expand to other games as it would be a waste of money. No Heroes is one of the biggest gaming communities on Steam http://www.no-heroes.com/ Look at their servers. Notice how most of the TF2 servers are full (and all are populated) and the ones from other games are all empty. 2f2f has eight servers spread across 7 games. (2 TF2, 1 DOD:S, 1 GMOD, various other mods) The only non-TF2 servers that gets even a small amount of traffic is the GMOD server. You think having another TF2 server will split the community? It may, however, splitting the community up between two games is more likely to create rifts. (Or do nothing at all, as the server may never populate.)

If you must have something completely different, we could get a stock rotation, or a surf server.

Maybe all the donators should vote.... I wish I could donate but I can't. But I do think that we should get a L4D server. But that is just me.

There are pros and cons to every possibilty of this problem.
Another game:
Pros.
-Well populated
-Large community
-Will expand this beyond just TF2
Cons:
-May not be populated enough
-May cause a "rift"
-Not everyone will be able to afford or run said game

TF2:
Pros
-Has a large community
-Servers are generally full
-Everyone here already has this game
Cons
-May create a "rift"
- May not be as populated due to competition with other severs of ours
- May take away population from other servers of ours
-(WILL do one of the two above)

Sourcemod:
Pros
-Everyone should be able to run it
-Everyone can afford them as they are free
-Chance to create a "Rift" is lower
-Will expand calculatedChaos beyond TF2
Cons
-May create a "rift"
-May not be populated
-Smaller modding community
-Some mods take more server power than others

The main reason I would do it is because while I like almost everyone in the community, I really get tired of the alltalk. A lot of times when I want to play TF2 I want to play competitively, and to be able to talk to my team about how we're going to wreck the other team and plot strategy and stuff. There's way too much babbling on the main server for that most of the time.

Also, there's a lot of what I consider really bad/unfun maps on the custom server. I'm not sure whether that's because of how the community (and random people) rate the maps or if it's just too easy to get a high enough rating to get in rotation. Personally, I think it's because people don't rate seriously on a basis of whether or not they want to have a map in rotation.

So..this theoretical server would be a place I could play with you guys without having to deal with the 2 issues I have with playing on the main server now.

There's other fixes for your two problems: Alltalk can be turned off, and maps can be changed.

All we need is a larger community. It's a timing issue more than anything else. Another server would probably split people pretty thin right now, but it would also bring more people in. More people means more people to go around.

The fun server is getting more popular. Hopefully we get some decent new people out of that (it seems like we will). Larger community also means more donations which means we can monetarily support more servers.

I don't think the timing is right just yet. It took forever to start getting regulars on the fun server and that is only because it is radically different from the main server.

Also, I am slowly moving more and more maps off of the regular server and onto the fun server. I do agree there are a fair amount of maps that don't really fit in there.
