You know what really grinds my gears? The fact that I have been absent for quite a while because of school and work, and now that I am trying to get back into playing again I can never find a game that I will play for more than one round. There are so many new people playing that almost have no real place playing. I miss the good old days when there would be a game of 24 people and all 24 were at least civil and good at playing. It has become less fun for me to log on and see how the server has taken a turn. I am not saying that I am no longer going to play, I am just stating my feelings about what has transpired in only that past 3 months. All in all, what I have to say is: if you aren't mature enough to behave and act in a civil manor, don't blurt out random crap on voice chat and don't annoy others.

You know what really grinds my gears...

People debating about games that haven't came out yet, people who take things too literally; people who think they're funny because they take the literal meaning; and finally people debating about opinions(e.g. which games they like more, and different styles of gameplay), agree to disagree and MOVE ALONG... NOBODY NEEDS NERD RAGE AND FLAME WARS

Speaking of Nerd Rage; my teacher went ape shit and yelled at our class and kicked us out of the room...

When school started it became harder and harder to find a good game. I am going to try and ramp up membership to fix this.

BAD RANT IS A GO.

3 words. The Fun Server. I hate it, and it's nearly killed the custom maps server. What I hate the most is that it'll usually like, 1 hour of Breakfloor, and melee mode is on most of the time. I enjoy playing on a sort of serious server, but not on a near the end of the line for serious server. I like this community, but since the custom maps server is mostly dead, I have to play on another server. So captain, either remove the fun server, or find some way to get the other server populated easily.

I'd idle to keep the playercount up most of the time, but since a recent update some server setting changed to make the console kick me whenever I don't join a team.

You know what grind my gears? Fan boys and fan girls due to the fact they get offended by what you dislike about the series or game you are talking about and people who think Twilight is a good series

What really grinds my gears is when people spawn camp on glass war with a demo or soldier or spy. There is no way to escape, as soon as you spawn you get killed with stickies or rockets or you get backstabbed. Sometimes a vote kick against these people works but they just come back again to get kicked time after time. What else grinds my gears is when a college has a specific "games" room kitted out with PS3s, PC's, Xbox 360's, big TV's, but you have to "book" the room and take a lecturer from one of your classes with you. I mean what's the point in having so much equipment if you have to book the room in advance, therefore meaning its pointless to anyone who isn't in a computing class.

Well I think of it like this: If I'm at a girl's apartment, or somewhere where the girls live then I'm considerate enough to put it back down. But say my g/f is over at MY house? Screw her, its my house.

I see where you are coming from on that but what happens if you end up living with her? But when my uncle comes over to my house he always leaves it up, I want to smack him.

I've never understood why people can't put it down themselves. I mean, if it's down in the first place guys have to lift it, right?

There are only two things that really grind my gears.
1. When somebody blows down 2 vertical blocks in breakfloor maps, push me in, and keeps destroying the blocks below me so i cant dig my way back up (or barely do it) until I fall to my death.
2. People that say what grinds their gears are other people saying wat grinds their gears, that's what really grinds my gears.

Back to you, Tom. :batman:

Right! So the person who lifts it should put it back down.

What really grinds my gears is subconscious activities like not realizing I'm being highly considerate to a girl in the house and putting the seat down...
Even if I wanted to be defiant and be like "Bitch, this is my house" and leave the seat up, I'd put it down without thinking about it, anyway.

Re: Ya know what really grinds my gears...?

Though in my experience at your house that seat is frequently left up.

Because my family used to have a Cat we always left the seat and lid down so the cat wouldn't drown if he happened to jump up on top of the toilet, so in my house the seat and lid are always down :D. If I'm in someone else's house I would leave it the way I found it, or I would put the lid and seat down if I had the time.

I feel this topic on toilet seats is a complete tangent to the original question of grinding yer gears, but its not grinding enough people to start its own thread.

Children. Especially the attention whore ones. I have this one young cousin who announces when she enters the room and when she exits, also she doesn't let anyone else have attention not even for a second, you start talking to someone else, BAM she's cryins

People are stupid..

If you ask people why they do the things they do in life, they will give you sensible
sounding reasons which seem to explain their decisions. We like to believe that we
exercise sound judgement, especially in the important decisions of our lives.

I think that this is rarely true. I think that standard operating procedure for human decision making is to do what feels right to you at the time, and then to give logical sounding justifications for what you were already going to do anyway, whether you had justifications or not.

So, if you are pregnant, and want to get an abortion, you will be able to give any number of reasonable sounding explanations why this is the right decision. You're not ready to be a parent, or you need to finish your education or get to a better point in your career, or you don't have enough money, etc. If instead you want to keep the baby, you will explain how even though you will have some extra difficulties due to the lack of money or whatever, you will certainly be up to the challenge to make your life work with the baby, how being a parent will be good for you, what a great parent you'll make, how it will bring you and the father closer together, and so on. In either case, none of these will be the real reason for your decision. The real reason for your decision will always be, "I did it because I wanted to do it".

This method of decision making may have worked fine earlier in human history.
However, in a highly complex technological society, the inevitable result of this is that people behave in extremely stupid ways.

For example, the average American household now has $8000 in credit card debt, on which they pay an average of 19% interest. Is there any good reason to be running an $8000 debt? No. Did these people all run into major life crises which forced them to run up huge debts or else become homeless? No, they spent it on furniture, clothing, televisions, etc. Is it logical to spend $1500 a year in credit card interest?
Clearly not.
People do this because there isn't extra money in the bank, but there is something they want to buy, and the positive feeling they get from the idea of having this item is stronger than the negative feeling they get at the idea of their monthly payment going up by another $20.

For example, marijuana is illegal in most of the world, while alcohol is legal, despite the fact that alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than marijuana in every way.

People consider marijuana to be a dangerous drug, while they think of alcohol as being a fun beverage. They consider those who sell marijuana to be drug dealers, the scourge of society who should be hunted down and imprisoned, while those who sell alcohol (wine makers, grocery stores) are of course not placed in the same category.

Logically speaking, it should be the other way around. Alcohol tends to make many people aggressive, leading to a variety of violent crimes, while marijuana does not.

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, and leads to a serious loss of
coordination and motor skills. At larger doses, alcohol renders one completely
unconscious. Drunk drivers cause enormous numbers of automobile accidents and
deaths. Marijuana is not a central nervous system depressant, and while one probably shouldn't drive while intoxicated on anything, it simply does not cause anywhere near the loss of motor control that alcohol does, and is only a fraction as dangerous as alcohol in terms of driving. And, a large enough dose of alcohol can and will kill you, while the same is not true of marijuana.

But people are looking at this based on their feelings. Marijuana feels like a drug to them. It's illegal, isn't it? Alcohol feels like a fun beverage. It's legal, and socially acceptable, so it feels ok, so it must be ok.

All of this is illogical and stupid, and typically human. And I could give countless other examples of this, but I'm sure you can think these up yourself. Just look at how people behave in terms of politics and religion.

And, I think that when you see ridiculous and idiotic behavior and decision making in other people(or in yourself), you have to consider it to be the inevitable result of the nature of the human psyche.

"The only way to comprehend what mathematicians mean by Infinity is to contemplate the extent of human stupidity." - Voltaire
