Ever since the good American cartoons of the 80's and 90's stopped showing, Anime has shown its superiority in story/plot, artwork, humor, and overall appeal. There are a few American series that are still favorites; Venture bros., Boondocks, South park, King of the hill, but if i see an Anime that looks intersting, ill still give it a go over some of the crap that we have on TV these days.

a couple of series/movies that come to mind that didnt annoy me:

Robotech (the later part of the series was better imo)
Ninja Scroll
Appleseed (the original [1988] and the new one [2004])
Princess Mononoke

ive recently been watching "Witch Hunter Robin". its a series -- its not bad.

Watch Grave of Fireflies, Castle in the Sky, ect. His other stuff.
Also, for non-movies, Jungle Guu was pretty awesome
