looks good to me. :isee: In the end things might have to change (in general, not just your room) because Agent_ told me there was a limit to how many prop_physics can go in a map. If he's right, the limit is kinda low, so we'll just see how it plays out.

I've just used 1 prop_physics and 4 prop_dynamic, so that isn't really that much ;) .

So now that I've branched off from the template and starting creating my own map, is there any sort of size limit? I try to keep as small as possible, but I want to be bigger than what it would have been with the template

do not use prop_dynamics. they have a limit too. instead, use prop_static. does the same thing except it cant be named.

as far as memory size, no there's not a limit. just be smart.

as far as physical size, completely. you can't make the room any bigger or any smaller than the template. thats why its a template. if i can't copy your template of a room into any room slot in my hotel then I won't accept it.

If you're talking about making your own map separate from the hotel, that's your own business. :barf:

OK, so I have changed my mind. I'm not naming anyone's room that didn't do their own room. I will still fill in all rooms that are empty, but they won't be to anyone's specifications.

I suppose a little of both, but the main reason is because people keep changing their minds over whether they are going to do their own or not. Its purely easier to just do a bunch of my own rooms. Plus it gives the ones that did do their own a little bit more of a reward.

I can't keep wondering whether I need to fill room x with my own stuff and member x will decide he should never have signed up.

For future reference, I have the swamp pack, so if anyone is using those don't bother packing them.



edit: Not a good idea to plan your room around a bunch of prop_dynamics. I know I didn't specify, but dont be surprised if I have to cut them just because of map limitations.

Can't anyone do this right? You try to open your vmx file and see how much you can get done with it.

Its a shame all your work was put to waste. Hopefully you'll see this before you leave and give me the right file (vmf).

I was just wondering, am I still going to get a room? Cause I know I asked in time, I just didn't specify a room because the layout just confused me and I didn't know which one to pick. But if I do get one, can you put a troll doll in it? I think I've worked enough for that doll. :psyduck:

ok ya know what, I can't fix all this, its too much.

Taedium, redo everyone main wall and make them the way I had them - one big brush per wall. You noticed how you have like a billion pieces in the walls and floor?

Just put your posters up like you would hang a picture frame. I don't know how you managed to do it, but its the worst brushwork I have ever seen. Unless they are func_details like beds/railings/etc you should never have intersecting brushes. And you should have as small amount of brushes as possible for what you want to accomplish. You either need to be less lazy or ask me for help because you don't know how you're doing wrong. Either way, you have to fix it.

Nope. Unless :

1. You specified a room before the 15th of July.
2. You're doing your own room.

2a. Someone has agreed to do a room for you besides me.

but since you didn't specify a room, that's over with. Sorry.
Its kinda like the editor of a newspaper allowing new articles right up until he's about the print it. It doesn't happen.

When I started, I cared less than I do now. I got it all fixed in about 10 minutes or so. God forbid. I just got too tired and bored to consider fixing them.

The rug in the middle was one of the first things I had ever done with the clipping tool and was causing a TON of visleafs. lt had cut almost 20 separate sections. Which kinda makes me wonder why I hadn't just made a brush in the first place. But nevertheless, that is fixed. And its a brush now. Not... shit. As for the walls, I had clipped them for the posters, but the other posters that I had recently put before I released it were in frames, because that was after I learned how to hollow out blocks. I had forgotten about the other 2. So those are fixed as well. The bed, couch, hot tub, bar and lamps were already Func_details. So I know what they are, and I tried to implement them as best as I could.
I know a lot more than I did when I started. That was the problem.

But its all done now. I'm just going do one last examination.

The thing about visleafs is, if something is a func_detail it doesn't cut a visleaf. The walls as I most recently saw them caused 100x more visleaf cuts than necessary. From what I can tell, there's nothing in the room that can't be turned into a func_detail.

As for the rug, there's no need to make it part of the actual floor. Keep the floor one big block and just make a rug thats 2 units thick and put it right ontop of the floor. Make it a func_detail and it doesn't matter that it intersects with your couch.

I look forward to your improved version. Aside from optimization it was the most unique room yet.

Also, if you want the framed pics to appear to sink into the wall just make the picture an overlay, put it on the wall, then just put a picture frame around it that sticks out 2 units or so.

Cause if i can request something really small, can i get a "Danger: atmosphere contaminated, must use head gear before entry" sign or something along those lines above my door in the hallway?

unfortunately i can't create decals correctly because of my computer
not because of my competency

I can use one of the defaults though that says warning or hazard or something.
