Out of the top of my head, we still need to finish Nyarko-san and Girls und Panzer, and I still say we should get started on High School of the Dead just because, regardless of whether you think it's actually good or bad, too much of it is fucking absurd to let pass with a straight face.

Friend of mine recently told me about this new series that's either coming out soon, or already has come out, too lazy to look anything about it up even though I probably should.
I will speak in literal terms about this one. Take almost the entire production cast that brought the world Cowboy Bebop, also pretty much my favorite anime series of all time ever, and then put them under the directorship of Shinichiro Watanabe, who brought us such, uh, death-defiling Lovecraftian curiosities as Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemi.
What do you get?
SPACE DANDY.
It's about a DANDY.

We need to at least try this one when we get the chance.

Shinichiro Watanabe is actually the director of Bebop and Samurai Champloo, not Excel Saga. I think that's a diferent Watanabe. It's a different animation studio to Bebop as well. The studio animating Dandy did FMA and Soul Eater which is still some pretty good pedigree. The OST is being done by Yoko Kanno, the brains behind the Cowboy Bebop OST. It's why that trailer is jukin and jivin like it's got all the right moves.

From the trailer alone I could have easily confused the two Watanabes because this stuff is in many ways that Watanabe's territory.
Shinichi Watanabe + Shinichiro Watanabe are names which are just far too similar in anyone's book for two radically different directors.

So I was recently told about an especially fucked up newish anime that is about as offensive and lewd as they get, called Maria Holic. It's your usual lesbian-on-lesbian yuri with a trap character apparently hidden somewhere within, which sounds pretty normal for all things Japanese in this day and age, except that the setting for it is also (unironically) a Catholic school, and even I have seen a lot of absurd bullshit animes in my time but god fucking dammit, Japan. I don't even want to find out what this is or spend any time watching it, but I nonetheless feel the need to alert everyone of the existence of this traffic accident of nature, and to remind everyone that no matter how bad the anime you just watched was, there will always manage to be something even worse. The intro alone is fucked up enough as is, and Caveat Emptor, you will want to unsee it.

Yeahno we'll be fucking extinct before we find either the need or the resources to build the largest solar panel in the universe. Shame an animu featuring these things has to be especially shitty and lame, because I'm way too big of a fucking nerd for all things sci-fi related for my own good. I also read about Freeman Dyson's theory once and want to see some actually well-done fictional portrayal of one in whatever media someday.
