very philosophical of you Ragin, as you can see "hey thar" stands for what a stranger would say to you as a friendly gesture. Though you may not see them again you at least saw a friendly face on your travels, fast forward to a conflict in the future to which you were drafted. You are sitting with a few other people in a foxhole and you hear a "hey thar", it was that man you saw a few years earlier and he just killed an enemy ready to shank your head.
