Gaming Backlog

Unread post by Boreas »

This is my gaming backlog, games with stories that I havn't finshed, or games that are free form that I have played less then a hour or two of, so I havn't really played much of it. Pretty much if I've beaten the games story or played 4 or 5 hours of the free form game I count it as played. Its a pretty generous system.

So far this list includes most of the PC games I'm backed up on, but none of the console games. Plus I've rolled all the expansions as part of just the game instead of naming them independently, unless its only the expansion that I havn't finshed. Any suggestions where I should start? :hist101:

do you ever actually finish a game? Some of those games aren't even that long.

Lol I'll have to do a list of finshed games sometime.

Edit: You have to remember I have been playing computer games longer then some of you people have been alive. Though there are others that have been playing computer games before there were even really computers = )

so of that list how many are steam games? I don't really buy games unless I'm finished with others or there's a steam game or its a mulitplayer game that i can't really "beat".

Damn, people actually tried to beat Morrowind? All I ever did was get lost in the rain and murder store keepers... Still had fun with it though.

Anyway, I loved oblivion and that can keep you busy for a while. Especially if you download some good mods for it. Alone in the Dark is supposedly near broken and as much as I love the idea of Overlord, it is a bitch to play. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is infamous for running about as well as a VIsta system with a spear in it, so good luck with that. Mercenaries 2 is also just... annoying. I don't know what it is, but it just fells bad. Penumbra & Painkiller are cult classics, so those might be a good place to start as well.

I found some enjoyment out of Merc 2, just by blowing everything up and pissing all the factions off, it just gets so repetitive half way though and that is when i stopped playing.

I'm about 3/4th the way through the main morrowind quest, though I havn't done any of the expansion stuff yet. I've kinda been stuck at that point for a bit, I need to wrap it up before I have to start over because I forgot everything, mass effect kinda got in my way and I spent weeks playing just it.

I started Mercs 2, but I didn't get very far in, the bugs started to annoy me, blowing stuff up was pretty fun though. Mabye I'll get around to going back and just cheating my way through it quick.

I did just pick up two new games, well a expansion and a new game, so I'll have to add them to my list =D

Actually no it wasn't =), suprising I know. I rarely buy games when they first come out, and I admit I was kinda torn over this one, but I decide it wasn't really worth it to me, though I might still crack.

I know I'm the big rts guy of Cc but Starcraft really doesn't do it for me, its a bad rts game. Don't get me wrong, the campaign I am sure will be amazing, but the multiplayer doesn't really interest me, mabye once the use map settings maps star flowing, but thats about it.

Jade Empire's easily broken. Just Cause is pretty fun.

But are you SERIOUSLY going to try and beat Guild Wars?

The servers were taken offline after the company who made the game went bankrupt. The intellectual property was liquidated, I think some Korean company has the rights now.

Regarding Boreas list, :psyboom: you... actually bought Universe at War. The human mind cannot even begin to fathom how horribad that game was. Luckily I played it at an internet cafe and thus avoided the ultimate buyer's remorse.

Regarding Hellgate: That game was a fucking mess that was mildly fun as it was. The whole model of free players vs. paying players is a silly one, not to mention the massive arsenal of glitches it shipped with, many of which weren't resolved.

Universe is not my cup of tea for startegy games, few mass market ones are, but for what it was it was pretty impressive, the races were more unique then the often toted starcraft races, but just as finely balanced. The campaign starts off fairly nice, but bogs down by the third arc I though, I never quite managed to finsh it for that reason. Still for the PC it was actually a fairly top notch game.

Universe at War had some concepts I absolutely loved (Mobile metal gatherers for the Hierarchy) but the game just sort of went dull for me. The races I have to admit were unique, Shiny Robots Vs. Alien Robots Vs. Aztecs. Though the races can be sort of linked to starcraft races. Terran=Novus. Both were the good guys in the campaign and relied heavily on guns. Hierarchy=Zerg, in the fact that the hierarchy had the creepy shaped monster aliens. And the Masari=Protoss due to the religious fanatacism.

The comparison seems pretty superficial except for the novus and terrin ones because both their play stiles revolved around being dynamic. Their all unique races in the game because of their wildly diffrent playing styles. One concept I aboslutly loved in the game was the novus transport through their like power grid, I loved the fast movement style there. Still the game never really hit me right, mabye if I played it against a friend it might be kinda fun, but even then I dunno.
