HELP!
I am posting this in General, and Help desk, in case it get's buried.
Anyway, I was trolling a runefag forum. I have a screenshot attached with the post of my IP (Ironically, it was a typo) and a threat AGAINST me. He threatened to do more than ban it, and I believe I am at risk.
Of course, I don't know if he'll do anything, but is this legal?

Re: HELP!
To be honest once he has your IP you're pretty much fucked, he can access everything you've ever done or will do on that computer. You may want to scrap the computer otherwise your putting yourself and anyone who uses the computer at risk.
You can research online what hackers can and will do to people, it's not nice. Giving out your IP is like handing him a key to your house.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion man.

make sure you have nothing important on your computer. make sure to empty your recycle bin after deleting stuff.

Re: HELP!
Can someone show me a reputable link saying that someone having your IP address can actually do more than just know your location? I looked briefly and could not really find anything too threatening. I'm not being sarcastic - I'm just interested now.
other than him knowing where you live so he can kill you, I don't see it as a big deal.

Re: HELP!
most and almost always when you trace an IP address. it will show the location of your ISP, not your home. just an FYI.
honestly, there isn't much they can do unless they know your port.
he is just bullshitting.
most people who are real hackers, try to get into databases, crack programs, and websites/forums. .
he more than likely doesn't know what he is doing.
i used to hack for a while, there is a whole linux based OS that is full of hacking tools that is bootable from a flashdrive. the most i ever did was war-drive, and install keyloggers for the hell of it. but that was with me being connected to their network through their WIFI.
if you havent already, install AVG anti-virus. it should tell you if anyone is trying to connect to your network without your knowledge and will stop it.
you should have nothing to worry about. don't be so paranoid.
