Hi everyone. I hopped over here to see if we can get a problem worked out. This problem is a player who shows up regularly on the FunServer. He goes by the name of Gabe Newell.

And he's, frankly, a dick. And, if you will, a griefer. In the times I've played on your (otherwise excellent) server, when he's on, the fun is lacking.

He only does his dickery when no admins are around, as far as I can tell. And due to the lack of a votekick option at the moment (despite it appearing in the messages about the server that pop up during play, it doesn't appear to be working), it's fairly hard to deal with him.

As an example of his dickery, and as proof, I have a TF2 demo file that you can watch of his crap. It's fairly long, but, if I remember correctly, the most obvious dickery appears near the end of the recording. As well, it includes the opinions of other players online at the time (in case any of them are respected regulars on the server or forum) to add some weight. The essentially unanimous opinion is that he needs something along the lines of a permaban.

i too have been wondering why none of these people have been hit by the bann hammer permanently.

Probably because nobody who cares goes on that server.

Yeah......thats a source mod exploit everyone on the funserver knows and Tgame doesn't give a damn as long as he doesn't kill anyone using it

As Trilby already mentioned it's a sourcemod exploit not a hack and I always follow 2 general rules:I don't use it on "serious" maps or arena maps such as breakfloor or black mesa and rule number 2 if too many people or an admin complains I turn it off. These rules tgame,tomm and most players are fine with. At the time of the ban we were on the map pl_racer city. While the map does have a goal of sorts the map is somewhat broken probably too broken to consider "serious." When using them no one complained as I was simply building a base at the end,something I could probably do without the speed as everyone else was busy spawncamping. Then you saw me go past you and said "Who is the engy on blue team." Immediately after hearing this assuming you were mad or annoyed I turned it off,walked over to you(at normal speed), wrenched you and got banned. A little while later I noticed the custom server was running Harvest_Event, having not played the map in a good while(and wanting to populate the near empty server) I joined. After choosing a class, before I could even get out of my spawn, I was banned. Now had I joined some random server containing serious players and serious maps the ban would be justified hell, even if I did constant the server it would be. The problem here is admin inconsistency. Meaning each admin has personal viewpoint on everything having to do with the server. One admin may see blocking the door of black mesa as funny while others believe it constitutes a kick. One admin may think getting tked on breakfloor is the victim's fault while another considers it worthy of a ban. This includes many other issues on the server including the one at hand. Some admins such as tomm and tgame see the exploit as fine as long as I follow the previously mentioned rules others, like trilby will enforce it after what he believes to be enough, and finally there are those including you and lan who see it as an instant ban no questions asked type of thing. This is my main problem I would prefer there be a constant rule about whether it be for or against. With a rule in place we would be able to avoid misunderstandings like this and god forbid have a little fun on the fun server. I don't expect to be unbanned as I was to an extent "hacking" however I do expect a rule to be made about it and the plugin that kicks players running addons such as sourcemod to be installed.

generic, i'm not out to get you or anything. Maybe other admins let things slide.. but i've been a server owner and a server administrator for as long as i've been playing video games. i own no servers now, but my point has been made. i've came across so many 'hackers' i just don't even want to put up with it anymore. i have self-defined hacking/ exploiting as attempt(s) or sucess(es) to bypass the physics, and mechanisms of an online video game to gain an advantage, even if said advantage is minute.

when i admin a server i go by some easy rules that are already on the MOTD.
no hacking/exploiting
no porn sprays
and lay off the mic every now and again

that's it lol.

edit: i'm just looking out for the good name of our community. i don't want guests on our server thinking that these sort of things are accepted here because it could push potential regulars away from the servers. if they are not playing on our servers then they are sure as hell going to be playing on others.
i don't have too much time to play now-a-days and when i do get on i just want to play the game. if you are unbanned that would be fair, you are a member of this community as much as I. it just upsets me to see these sort of things going on while all i want to do is play, regardless of what map(s) the servers are running.

Sorry about that my post sort of made you look like the bad guy. My problem isn't with you or any of the other admins for that matter it's just the lack of structure. In a way it reminds me of the little kid being told no by his mother but going and asking his dad who says yes. The point of an admin is to enforce rules and the rules should be server specific not admin specific as this leads to confusion. Also I do understand what you did and considering the fact that you apparently don't play much it's understandable that you might be sort of "out of the loop."

There are only a few server-specific rules, and that speedhack/exploit/whatever you wanna call it is against them. It doesn't matter if someone may let it slide, but don't get mad just because someone let you do it and now all of a sudden you can't.

just for the record i did say that i couldnt protect you from other admins. but i dont think a perma ban is in order. but we do need to set up some general rules for this. as to not have to be in this situation again.
