Map Voting

Unread post by John Failman »

map voting should be taken out. Admins are simply to touchy about it. I think a set map rotation with the best maps admins see suitable would be best, instead of this situation:

Vote: Arena Chamber WINSZ0RZZZ!!!
Admin: FUCK DA POLICE
::Admin Changes Map to Toy Fort::
Me: AH SHIT! Not again D:
::Admin Bans John Freeman::

That actually happened once. I was mad because it went from Arena Melee (Fail) to Arena Chamber, and some people were happy about it, and we see ::Map Changed to *insert generic map here*::

If anyone saw how many times Arena Chamber has been changed to something else, it would be crazy, big number.

I was more on the fact that if the admins don't like it, some will have the tendency to pick a different map.

They'd still be map-touchy even with a rotation, except then every single time the rotation gets to a certain point you know the map's gonna get changed. I doubt this would fix anything but only make matters worse.

It's the admins just thinking of themselves.

People used to nominate maps that crashed the server, if it was picked, did the admins care? Only once did I see it changed after that.

If the admins don't like it, they change it, no matter what the majority voters think.

Take that back, they care about what majority voters think. In fact, most of the time, it's worth a kick or a ban.

First I liked to say I regret suggesting arena_chambers. Organized melee looks good on paper.

Second , Most people pick an overused map (checkers) then they extend it as far as it can go. Sometimes a vote is made (Change map? Yes. No.) Yes wins most of the time. This baffles me to no end.

Well some members find it fun. But when the vote is made, that's the point when it becomes kind of boring. I still like Arena Chamber, I just do, because I sit out a lot.

Overused maps are overused, but it's because people like them. Some don't, and some do.

I could say Toy Fort is overused, because whenever I jump on, and the map is changed, I see Toy For Elite come up often, and the map lasts at least an hour in overtime.

people choose yes because they dont look at the votes they just press 1, which is why when i make votes i leave 1 blank, or switch yes and no so people actually look at what they're voting for.
Think of me what you will, I don't give a crap what you think about me. Nor will i change to please you.

This is true most of the time. People just vote for the first option.

Nice strategy.

Here's a suggestion: Don't make your own mapvotes when the map you're voting for cannot be nominated due to being recently played.

This works most of the time, but an even better way to see if people are paying attention is /vote "*vote*" "I'm an idiot that always votes 1" "No" "Yes", and, if they're REALLY bad at paying attention, "Mute Thursday".
Then press 1 immediately and see if others pick it.

I make various SourceMod Plugins for TF2.
Also I fix things. And break things. No complaints.

Here's how votes go:
1) chambers
2) Something good
3) Something else good
4) Some beta map

Results:
Chambers/checkers/bash: Wins
good map A: 4/27
good map B: 5/27
Beta map: 1/27

How they should go:
Chambers/checkers/bash: 6/27
Good map A: 10/27
Good map B: 7/27
Beta map: 4/27

Admin's Dream
Chambers/checkers/bash: 0/27
Good map A: 12/27
Good map B: 9/27
Beat map: 8/27

Well, I respect his opinion, and all admins opinions. But when the majority wants to play a map, what's wrong with that?

Don't say it's overplayed. I've played it once the last 3 days because admins are looking out for it.

It's overplayed. Just because you're on the server on the wrong times doesn't mean that it isn't played more than once or twice a day.
Life is whatever.

If <92% of the time a map isn't being played, I would that that was perfectly fine.

And the map is nominated that many times, but it isn't played much, because an admin is almost always on.

Nominate limit is made for a reason, if you can increase it to stop maps from being overplayed, do so.
