So with talk of the funServer getting a much needed cleanup, these are the maps that need to go, IMO:

Map: Forbidden_Forest_v3
Reason: Horrific optimization, is like playing a slideshow.

Map: ktf_legoarena
Reason: Broken

Map: arena_chambers_b7
Reason: Easily griefable, takes way too long to finish on even a half-full server, even with people co-operating

Map: fy_iceword and/or dm_fightyard_beta1
Reason: Completely spawncampable, overall messes in general.

Map: rickler_engineer_jump_a3
Reason: The neccesary friendly fire just results in an hour of nonstop teamkilling

Map: arena_nicis_cool_level_b3
Reason: Ugly, fullbright, a mess to play on, and horribly optimized.

Map: koth_saw_final
Reason: Horribly optimized, plays like a slideshow. Literally unplayable.

Map: arena_saw_final
Reason: see koth_saw_final

Map: koth_sunset_saloon_b1r1
Reason: horribly optimized, completely unplayable in some areas

I won't put maps like Blackmesa up on that list because, unlike them, Blackmesa is at least playable. If anyone else has maps to add to this list, use this format to make things easier for the admins:

Code: Select all

Map:
Reason:

Blackmesa? Playable? That map is Hydro if Hydro was just a CP map.

Now, I love Hydro and the idea of TC maps in general, but Blackmesa has to go like all of the outdated versions of maps have to go. Seriously, some of these melee_fort and breakfloor maps have like 10 versions. They're just taking up space.
Life is whatever.

Blackmesa is, in fact, playable. It's a bad map, sure, but it doesnt stutter, functions correctly, and isn't easily griefable.

The same cannot be said of koth_saw. Or Forbidden Forest. Or Chambers.

Like, I absolutely hate KOTH Rainbow. With every fiber of my being. But at least it's functional, which puts it leagues above all that other shit.

If people want to improve the funserver, then we can't leave the bad maps. That's stupid. They may work, but they're also bad. They have a reputation for being bad. What reason do we have for keeping them? Sure, we should prioritize the absolutely worthless and unplayable maps, but the bad ones should go, too. That way we can make room for good maps. What we SHOULD do is keep awful maps like Arena_Gridfloor so we can punish entire servers of idiots at once.

And honestly, Koth_Rainbow should be removed because it's a legitimate health risk. Someone will, almost inevitably, have a seizure because of that map. I wouldn't be surprised if it's already happened. I am not joking.

Yeah i feel like things like koth_rainbow just need to go. i honestly don't know if anyone likes that map. and i agree that someone will eventually suffer an epileptic seizure on it. hell, i feel my brain get tingly on there, even. though i don't know if it's the map, or the madz generated by the fact that someone nominated it and the sever voted for it.

speaking of which, it seems like the only people who nominate it or even vote for it are either:
"LOL im gunna troll fun server so hard ahaha"
-or-
"koth_rainbow? i've never been here before and that sounds like a silly and fun map!" and then go "hell, this is stupid" after 5 min. on it.

An improved map voting system could help as well. I've seen lots of servers with a modified map voting plugin where the first two options are replaced with an unselectable notice, telling the players to actually think about what map they want to go to.
It's less because of the notice and more because the first two options can't be selected, making the player actually look at the things they can vote on instead of just mashing 1 and ending up on the same maps as always.

I wish I could remember the exact name of the plugin, but yeah.

In most cases, once they get used to the plugin, they just mash 3 and 4 instead of 1 or 2.

Well I guess that's true. There's still got to be some way to stop people from choosing the same maps over and over or something.

I like how you imply that any of us can do it but we're all just too lazy to. And by that I mean I don't.

I don't like pointing fingers whenever I don't have to.

But seriously, it would be awesome if we could get more people talking about this

except that the ones that can fix it don't visit the forums, or TF2 for the most part for that matter.
