Battle Medics

Unread post by Divine Fate »

I've heard a lot of people complain about players being battle medics. Here's a little explanation on how to play them, and when to play them.

When playing battle medic, be sure to keep your team healed as you do it. This doesn't mean you have to follow around a heavy and keep him overhealed all the time. Just enough HP to support your team.

When to play Battle Medic? Even if your team needs HP, as the medic you need to ensure that YOUR health is at a high. Look around for medpacks, dispensers, and other medics, but when this isn't an option, just take out that blutsauger and spray bullets all across where the enemy team lies. If you did it right, you should be getting an abundance of HP and be good to continue healing your team.

If you were doing wonderful as a medic, but your patient still died in the heat and now you are without a single person to heal, run away. But don't just turn your back to the enemy, chances are that the same person that killed your patient is after you now. You can't have this happen because you will die. As soon as your patient dies, take out that blutsauger and fire it either at the cluster of enemies or at the closest enemy approaching you.

Medics are interesting in that they almost never die. You may be constantly healing your team but they will all die at some point. Your main job is to stay alive and keep your team alive, but who says you can't contribute to your team in other ways? Here's a few helpful tips on taking on enemies:
  • Never use the ubersaw, unless you're at max HP and spot a spy trying to flank you.

Your blutsauger has 40 shots in a clip, that's enough to take out an enemy in just about two clips. It also fires at a special rate that you have to make sure you arc your needles and that you fire where your opponent is going to be, not where he currently is.

Your enemy has bad perception of your own HP, since he never knows when you're healing yourself. Use this to your advantage.

When playing against soldiers or demos, make sure you exploit the fact that your HP is unknown to them. Make that pesky soldier resort to using his shotgun then go in for the kill. Charge your enemy, it's the thing they least expect from a medic.

For more damage, you have to move forward as you fire, since the bullets will be grouped together instead of more spread apart when you are retreating or standing still.

When playing against heavies, try to do it in the mentality of a soldier or pyro. Keep out of the spray of bullets, but you have to make an attack sometimes. You can peek out and start firing, or just go around the heavy while he can't turn fast enough. If every needle hits, you can stay alive better than he can, but if the heavy has a medic, run away. It's hopeless for you.

Pyros like to use the charge technique as well, but medics have an advantage over them. They both move at the same speed, and medics have range. You can easily defeat a charging pyro by just running backwards and firing direct needles into him. Don't sweat it if you're caught on fire. Your blutsauger will take care of the healing.

Fighting other medics is a long lost cause. Try your best to get out of the situation in any way possible, and if you want you can lure the enemy medic right to your team.

Scouts, engies, and snipers are fun, because they try their pesky ways to defeat medics but mostly fail. If you just keep constant fire on them, you will stay healed and they will eventually die. Just stay away from the melee attack, that one's deadly.

The only time to use the ubersaw is fighting spies, but if the spy is firing his pistol you need to get that blutsauger back out and finish him off. That pistol can be deadly.

Remember your ammo, it runs quickly. On a good day, you can defeat three enemies without having to grab more ammo. On a bad one, you will be stuck on the same enemy throughout your whole supply. Keep in mind where ammo boxes and dropped weapons are and head to that location.

Even though you have a constant supply of leeched HP coming towards you, the enemy is going to want to find some way to heal. Try to find the medpacks and just steal them before the enemy can get to them. This improves your life rate and their death rate.
Keep in mind that playing a battle medic over another class is a very bad idea. Since it takes medics a few minutes to kill an enemy, it is highly ideal that you choose another class if you wish to fight the whole game. Medics serve the purpose of healing, and doing anything else with them is just a sub-par way of doing another class's job. There are needed situations, but leave the fighting to the other classes. It'll be better for both you and your team's outcome.

This works in pyro v. pyro too. The range of fire will increase as you hold the gun down so if you fire first and are moving backwards at the same speed as the other pyro, they will die faster than you will.

I have a problem with playing medic. I can heal people until the cows come home and can be a decent medic when doing so but every once in a while I get this urge to whip out my uber saw. Every once in a while it helps me charge my uber (with every hit you get 25% charge) and if you and an attack class find yourself against one opponent, you helping kill them is about as useful as you healing your teamate. Both of you are out of danger faster and you can heal your teamate afterwords, plus you now have more of an uber charge.

That said, it only works if you can pull it off perfectly. If another enemy comes, you have to change plans and if your teamate dies you failed.

Medics are the second fastest class they move about 117% as snipers, spies, engies, and pyros all move at an ordinary 100% speed.
your blut/syringe gun is good at taking out sentries around corners because your needles have a nice arch you can get sentries around certain walls.
Pyros are only dangerous if they see you I've been able to sneak around them and ubersaw them to nothing.
scouts, engies, snipers, pyros, spies, demoman, and sometimes medics are your best targets with ubersaw it they have a clear shot at you forget the saw and blut em to death.
against heavys you WILL die if no one else is shooting at him or he notices you do not ubersaw him unless youve seen him get shot several times, if hes eating saw him to pudding
maps with spams of snipers are always gold because you have an upper hand if they havent already killed you, and considering the update you'll see a lot of snipers.
if you feel like you keep dieing from afterburn or someone shooting you when youve got low health, use the kritzkrieg its taunt gives a nice fighting chance heal.

The great thing about medics is they run backwards just slightly slower (4%) than the other classes run forwards, which makes retreating easy if you have the blautsauger out because if you land every shot, you're getting 30 health a second.
