TF2 Game Menu
I'm not sure how many of you will be interested but I put together this Game Menu file.
To use it, download the attached file (below) and place it in:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<account>\team fortress 2\tf\resource
Where <account> is your steam account/login name. This is based on the default installation path. The file shouldn't exist unless you have done some tooling around in there before. In that case, you should backup your old GameMenu.res file before you replace it.
What this does it add links to your TF2 main page to connect to our servers.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
Sounds cool, I'll try it in a few days.
This would be worth money if you had it in writing

Re: TF2 Game Menu
I still like to use the serverlist to check playercounts, nevertheless this works very well.

Here's a version with the customPromo portion omitted, since that server no longer exists.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
You don't open it . Read the following very closely and you'll find it will work wonderfully.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
if you do want to edit it though (like add extra text/ other servers/ what ever) you can open it with a program like visual studio or some other script program. Thats what i did, now i have an awesome menu in 1337 speak

Re: TF2 Game Menu
There's people who have converted the new one into a near replica of the old one. Just harder to mod now is all.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
Just a comment for archive's sake, since these aren't the correct format anymore, but the old menu .res files could be edited in Notepad/Wordpad. No need for Visual Studios or anything. I don't know how the new menus work, though. But if someone modded in the old menus, do these work with them?

Re: TF2 Game Menu
This update. (Technically, the second-to-latest one, but the Mac update in general broke the menu)
Life is whatever.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
Hey, I made a new one compatible with the new update.
The "s" in CUSTOMMAPS is cut off, but the buttons work. If anyone wants, I can change both to just CC FUNSERVER and CC CUSTOMMAPS. It only allows caps.
Place in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<yoursteamusername>\team fortress 2\tf\resource, as captain said in the first post.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
I'd like a screenshot before I download that, and it appears you'd need separate files for 16:9 and 4:3 for other new menus I've seen. Is this the case for yours as well?

Re: TF2 Game Menu
Pics. The disconnect button is slightly off to the left for some reason, I think. I'm not quite sure how to fix that, but according to one of my friends it's not my mod, it's Valve's mistake.
Also, I think I can make one that puts the buttons on the Start Playing button like the Create Server and Offline Practice buttons are.
Also I'm not sure about 16/9 and 4/3, but this is modded directly from the game files, and there was only 1 GameMenu.res in the GCF, so... I doubt I need separate ones.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
I made one that has a button that basically executes sm_admin, the quickly presses escape (cancelselect), so you press escape, click the admin button, and it goes back to the game with the admin menu open. It only appears in game, but I am unable to make it only appear for the two servers. Should I upload it here?
Edit: It always pulls up the admin menu, but sometimes it doesn't automatically go back to game.

Is there any way I can get my old menu back? I don't like the new one with the white buttons.

This mod is the closest thing out there to the old game menu; it's very well done.Incredible Spycrab wrote:Is there any way I can get my old menu back? I don't like the new one with the white buttons.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
I think I can also edit the one divine posted above to include the cC servers, just ask here, and I'll mod them and upload.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
The TF2 team decided to add cC updates to its blog window message thing
Pretty simple change, its a file called motd_entries.txt in the tf/cfg folder.
The "Read More" button should link to gaming.calculatedchaos.com, but neither the button nor the one for the TF2 official blog work for me (I run in windowed mode, that might be the problem, no in-game overlay; I'll try again with overlay enabled). Theoretically, we can make people download a file from the servers that adds an entry to the message window like this.
Oh, and the left arrow button changes it to the previous message, which was the original TF2 blog thing.
EDIT: I added more messages with buttons that connect to the servers rather than the website. I also made one for cC TV. Still working on those, though. They open up an overlay page going to steam:\\connect\216.52.143.91:27020\, but doesn't load or anything.

Re: TF2 Game Menu
Thank you muchly FlaminSarge. I loaded up TF2 for the first time since the 9th of June, after all these updates, and I was like WTH has happened to my layout? I don't think its any improvement, I don't see why they couldn't have added the new buttons as links, why do they have to completely rehash everything all the time. If it works and people like it why change it just cos it might look smarter and you can add an extra few buttons in. Anyway I can now get into the servers quickly again and hopefully the admin reserve slot when the server is full. Thank you FlaminSarge for updating this

Re: TF2 Game Menu
I don't think reserved slots are working for lower admins, I know that if I use the buttons and the server is at 19/19 it still doesn't let me in.
