The Fix to JB!

Unread post by CaliforniaBear »

You can test your ability to run the jukebox by trying to play this test song in every internet browser on your computer. Steam should use your default browser for the MOTD.

http://gaming.calculatedchaos.com/jukebox/test.html

If you use firefox as your default browser, you'll need to install the plugin found at the bottom of this page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

According to California and a few others, this issue seems to be related to the Steam Client update. It would appear as if the steam client has changed to use your default browser rather than whatever version of internet explorer you have to render web pages.

In any case, if you went to http://gaming.calculatedchaos.com/jukebox/test.html on your default internet browser (or every internet browser on your computer if you have issues) and can get it to play music, the jukebox should be fixed for you.

Please let me know if this fixes the issue. I have been trying to get this fixed for weeks now.

I've found a flaw in this silver lining. In my case, The actual song window opens as a new window with the hl2 logo on my desktop. I mean it looks like a normal media player but the taskbar icon is hl2. This is quite odd, i'll switch to firefox as default and test it again. (Google Chrome is my current default)

That's how the MOTD works california. It should appear as part of HL2 in the task bar (Win7).

Here's the issue i'm trying to say. I won't be able to move with my keyboard at all. I can use my mouse all I want. But until I alt tab, suffer the laggy delay of switching back into tf2, then i'm stuck.

ALSO. I've noticed when I start up TF2 I can't ESC out of the valve intro. Is this just me?

I have both of those problems. They keyboard one will go away after anywhere between 10 seconds and a minute.

I can esc, but every 6th or 7th startup it will flash then crash tf2, so I'll have to start tf2 up again and it will be fine.

Apparently if I install this other random plugin to the server, it fixes some of the JB issues. I'll see what I can do when I can get out of work (going on 13 hours now).

It makes the music player use a different format depending on what browser you are using so it works naively for more people without them having to add an exception like this.

So basically, it'd be a file that would need to be downloaded when joining the server and hopefully and ultimately fixing the jb for most people without them having to go through the trouble of using the methods that i've found useful? :P Jeeeze Cap'n, Holdin out.

That music plays just fine for me, but the in-game jukebox still does not work.
Indeed.

I've come across people who's JB still doesn't work so I'll make a list of possible solutions:

1. Install BOTH methods as mentioned in the first post. (The plugin I provided, and the link which captain provided). According to a few other admins, the plugin I've provided had worked on the first try.

2. Make FireFox or Google Chrome is your DEFAULT web browser. (Yes, I'm sorry but this seems to be a outstanding solution)

3. Wait for the new possible plugin that Captain has discovered, It will be downloaded when you join the server.

I'll look into that issue even more if these 2 current solutions do not work. And if all else fails, there's always option 3. :stupid:

I use internet explorer and it only, so a firefox plugin and solution 2 do not help me. I guess I'm waiting, then.

Well if you're going to be stubborn I suppose that's your only option. As captain had previously stated, it fixates itself to your browser setting so you can play it regardless of browser. HOWEVER, who knows if it breaks with the engie update thats coming out.

I was looking into some of my logs and cfg's. For some reason TF2 wanted to use Safari as it's default web browser. I'm not sure if this has to do with the JB but I don't have a mac. Infact I never installed Safari from all the iTunes updates.

I hate using firefox. I will NEVER install it.

EDIT: Sorry, I just have a lot of people who argue with me to get firefox. It's just a personal preference of mine.
Indeed.

The JB worked for me about two days ago, then the next day (yesterday) it just randomly stopped. I don't know what could've caused this <.<

I managed to get it working a while ago, it was a stupid error on my part :drop: Thank you for the advice though.
