cCs' Hotel: Download B1 Here

Unread post by Beetle »

for b1 and sounds, extract to "team fortress 2" folder:

http://beetle.calculatedchaos.com/cchotel_b1.rar

B2 Thread:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=26409&p=55537#p55537

So the map that will be released this week will be b1. It will include everyone's custom content - no downloading 2 files to get it all. Here are some things that didn't make it into b1 but will in the future.
- People's rooms will not be named.
- Rooms won't be numbered.
- No hotel diagram.

It will have a good amount of empty rooms. Everyone who has turned theirs in so far has been included in the hotel. Those that have not but still want to enter a room may give me a room over the next week. Don't put anything custom into it - no songs. no custom textures. Since you second round people missed the deadline you won't have your choice on which room you want (it was very annoying to scout out everyone's room as they gave them to me). Lemme know if any of you are interested so I know what to expect. Otherwise, I'll just continue to fill in rooms. You can take a look at the hotel so you can see to you whether its worth it or not.
Video Fly-Through UPDATED TEXTURED: http://www.wegame.com/watch/cc-hotel-ma ... y-through/

Hey, guys. To make you feel as important as if your name was KEKEKE, I made a hotel room template for anyone that has mapping skills. I'm making a cC hotel map, and you can design your very own room to fill the hotel anyway you like (within the guidelines below).

Download the template here:
cc_hotel_room_template.zip
extract to sourcesdk_content/tf/mapsrc
(4.04 KiB) Downloaded 409 times

Guidelines (Do's and Don'ts)
-Do NOT change anything that is given in the template.
(This means to not make your room larger/smaller)
-Do NOT add ragdolls. They eat up fps like crazy.
-Do NOT add elements outside of the room. Only add within the room.
-Do NOT add insta-deaths like a trigger that kills you as soon as you enter the room.
(you can add saw blades etc just make sure people will actually want to enter your room)
-If you know anything about optimization, please keep it in mind because it will save me a lot of time.
-Don't do anything stupid. Don't add stupid commands that could crash the server. I'm going to look over all the rooms anyway, so it would be pointless.
-Do NOT windows to the walls (other than the walls of the bathroom not touching the the outside walls. Not all rooms are facing the outside of the hotel.
-When adding entities, name them after yourself (eg, "beetle_door_07"), so your entities don't conflict with others'.
-Do NOT send your room to me with errors in it other than no player start. (hit alt+p to display errors)

Reupload your finished hotel room with the name "cc_hotel_room_<yourname>" instead of _template, so its easier for me to organize.

DOWNLOAD alpha version of hotel so you can get an idea of where things are going to go.

Of course I will partake in this. Can I make it so the floor in my room is breakable? ;D

not the whole floor, but i don't see why it would be a problem to have parts of it break. I don't want there to be an absence of a room in any room.

Can we change the doors and lights? Im guessing we can but
-Do NOT change anything that is given in the template.

was what i read and i think we should be able to if we dont go too crazy with light.

Here's a couple of reasons why I said don't change stuff. If you don't know what you're doing then what you add can really impact everyone's frames per second. For instance, if you have a bunch of dynamic lights (lights that can swing or strobe or w/e) that can take a toll on the fps easily. You have to realize that its going to be your room x100 in the map (maybe not 100 rooms but you get the point). Just keep that in mind when making your room.

Plus, its a hotel. We want SOME uniformity.

That being said, I really encourage you guys to add your own custom textures (even music!), but the more we add - the longer it will take to download.

As for the deadline, I'll set the deadline for August 1st. Then we'll see from there. I'll take what I get and add it to the main hotel and give contributing members a copy of it to see everyone's combined progress.

There will be MANY more rooms than members that are participating. Dare I say that if you have a few really good ideas for a room, then make separate rooms. I might add them all!

Re: Calculated Chaos' Community Hotel (DEADLINE: August 1st)

Also, if anyone is wondering, I plan to have the hotel haunted. So that koth_harvest_event ghost will be roaming the rooms/halls terrorizing everyone.

For a few especially well-made / unique rooms I will lock the door, and add a corresponding "key" (intel) you have to pick up and run up to the door to unlock. There's some motivation.

There will be no objective to this map other than to find all the secrets and explore the whole map (which will be as big as possible without being laggy).

Feel free to add Work In Progress screenshots to this thread.

I'll make rooms for many members. The only difference is that the people who make their own rooms can add their own secrets and as far as I'm concerned not tell anyone else about it.

news:

The layout of the hotel is posted. It is unfinished but as far as what rooms you can choose from, that won't change. Go the first page of this forum to see the aerial view then reply with what room you want to take. First come first serve!

could you for once read something I post a little more carefully before asking for a room? You have to SPECIFY A FLOOR.

room 4, 2nd floor if u can

Ill be postin snapshots as soon as i can find out how lol.

EDIT: snipping tool for the Windows 7 has just saved me from 2 hrs of confusion

I have about 3 different room ideas, but I might stick with this one if i can get it to work.

Here's what I want happen when i can find good tutorials (if any) on these.
Image

Ya i drew on it big whup, wanna fight about it?
I also am going to make a bed in the bottom right corner. That's not entirely hard but dimensions are still being calculated. I have a lot more in mind (poker table, shelves with stuff on it, etc) so the room wont look as spacious as it does now.
